Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren's capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can be collected only one unit at a time.

How the heck does Sanderson do such wonderful female characters??? I've read books with female characters written by women that are not believable. I'm completely gaga over his stories and this is my favorite. His female characters are beautiful, perfectly flawed, vulnerable yet strong. Human. I've listened to this 3 times, I never do that. Sanderson is not only a science fiction writer, but a romantic at heart. It's one of those stories I wish I could forget so I can listen to it again for the first time. Magical.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Love, love, looooooove this series but good lord-this guy's terrible. I don't understand all the people that like his performance?! His range is horrible. He uses ever so slight variations on the same 2 voices over and over, sometimes inconsistently changing his voice for various parts. His only saving grace, for me, is I recognize he has a nice voice but he would have been better off not trying to change his voice at all and just doing straight reading. Michael Kramer would have been brilliant narrating this series.

Trite, predictable with a whiny main character. I found myself rooting for the bad guy. I'm still trying to figure out whyI listendd to the whole thing.
