Who would want to kidnap her? And why? Lia Von Stratham knew she was a nobody. What would anyone want with a simple humanitarian who spent long days dispensing food and medicine to third world refugees? She owned little, and certainly nothing of interest to anyone else. Nor did she possess any political leverage. Her use as a bargaining chip would amount to nothing. A ransom demand would yield similar results. Neither her family nor employer had any money. So, what did they want with her? Who would gain by her abduction?

Although skeptical about this one (The title threw me a curve) I found it a great read even though the hero wasn't 'exactly' human. This well-told story was fascinating and, along with the characters, so deep and intense, held me on the edge of my seat. Loved this one!

Where does Short-Straw Bride rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top shelf.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Travis. It takes the strongest of men to discover, accept, and then grow beyond themselves.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to pick just one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Mary, after her head injury, told Travis he was her hero

Any additional comments?

This is how a Romance is supposed to be done. Simmering and sweet with a sizzling chemistry, add a splash of evil and stir. The outcome is not only a swoon-worthy hero saving the day but forever in those bedroom eyes. The character's epiphanies were just frosting on the cake. Perfectly (well)done! One last thought---this audiobook narration was, in my humble opinion, the best female narration I have ever heard. For some reason, most female narrations lower the decibel level when voicing male voices. They probably think softer means lower, but all it usually does is make it difficult to hear the book. This narrator was excellent. I heard every word, the first time.
