The Acquisition has ruled my life, ruled my every waking moment since Sinclair Vinemont first showed up at my house offering an infernal bargain to save my father's life. Now I know the stakes. The charade is at an end, and Sinclair has far more to lose than I ever did. But this knowledge hasn't strengthened me. Instead, each revelation breaks me down until nothing is left but my fight and my rage. As I struggle to survive, only one question remains. How far will I go to save those I love and burn the Acquisition to the ground?

Dark and disturbing but at last all secrets are revealed. I have to say this is the only book in the series that actually made me really feel something for Stella. Not that I have enjoyed her previous torment but now after everything I really felt like I was right there with her feeling all her emotions. Also I don't know why but throughout the whole series I liked Lucius more and wished it had been him. I did like Sin too though, he was focused, determined, domineering and would do anything to save Teddy and Stella.

In the heart of Louisiana, the most powerful people in the South live behind elegant gates, mossy trees, and pleasant masks. Once every 10 years, the pretense falls away and a tournament is held to determine who will rule them. The Acquisition is a crucible for the Southern nobility, a love letter written to a time when barbarism was enshrined as law. Now, Sinclair Vinemont is in the running to claim the prize. There is only one way to win, and he has the key to do it - Stella Rousseau, his Acquisition.

Interesting start to the series. Slowly secrets start emerging but I'm sure there are more to come. The ending was my favorite part!
Male narration was amazing, female narration was ok.

Hail to the king, and watch him reign, this game was somewhat fun, until the finale came. Now we’re here, with carnage and despair, and the only questions left to answer, are the ones that do not appear. A king loses a war, and a swan sheds her wings, chaos collides with peace, as the crows begin to sing. Enter if you dare, because I swear the end is near, but nothing is as it seems, and everything is so bare.

Overall I enjoyed the series so far. I wanted to give this 5 stars but I felt some things needed to be fleshed out some more. BVH is my absolute favorite King and I hope that Madison can show some growth in the rest of the series. I loved being able to get his POV! Both narrators were amazing at voicing all the different characters.

Things I liked:
Mystery surrounding the Kings
Madison dishing it right back, especially to Ally

Things I didn't like:
So many stupid mistakes on her part
All the girls always saying the Kings were dangerous but yet falling over them the next minute.
Too many song references. I like music in my books but not when it is multiple songs per chapter.

I'm intrigued enough to continue with the series. Lucy Rivers is great at pulling you into the story.

“I thought I knew who I was, but I was wrong.” I was lied to. I was cheated. Resigned to pick up the scraps of empty memories and disarrayed thoughts, I left. After finally cutting the strings of manipulation, I resorted to do what I’ve done since I was a child, something my father drilled into my brain since I could handle my first rifle. Run. I’m a mere shadow of the girl they all knew. Lies and deceit change you. They alter your entire outlook on life. I’m Madison Montgomery, and I want to play a game. Here’s what happens when I win.

Liked the glimpses we get of a relationship of sorts building between Madison and the Kings. One thing that is still driving me crazy is that Madison has basically learned nothing and is still making the same mistakes over and over when it comes to Bishop. I have a strong love/hate relationship with Bishop and Nate though as does Madison so I'm giving the book 4 stars because of that. Also how long does it take to read a book?! She should have been further along with it at least.

I dig. It's what I do. I'll literally use a shovel to answer a question. Some answers, though, have been buried too deep for too long. But I'll find those, too. And I know where to dig - the Blackwood Estate on the edge of the Mississippi Delta. Garrett Blackwood is the only thing standing between me and the truth. A broken man - one with desires that dance in the darkest part of my soul - he's either my savior or my enemy. I'll dig until I find all his secrets. Then I'll run so he never finds mine. The only problem? He likes it when I run.

Wow, not what I was expecting but it was really good. Once I was sucked into the mystery surrounding the woods I couldn't put the book down. I would have liked to see more of Garrett being himself, vague I know but I don't want to spoil it. The smexy times were off the charts hot! Not sure why there are two narrators listed because I only heard Erin Mallon. She was of course fantastic.

Despite some of the topics in this story I found it to be a light read. It was cute and I liked the small town feel. I wish it would have gone more in depth though. I needed more of Ryan's past and his struggles. Since all that came to light towards the end it felt rushed. Overall I enjoyed this book.

I'm so addicted to this series. I love alpha males and I liked that Cole was alpha without being over the top. This would have been a 5 star listen but I did find Lori frustrating, especially towards the end of the story. While I like a strong heroine she was beyond stubborn and sometimes hurtful to Cole. Still love them as a couple and I can't wait I listen to the next book.

No more “you should meet my son, nephew, grandson, the butcher, the guy down the street who mows my lawn.” People mean well, but machines know better, so I'll rely on the great dating algorithms of the web to find my ideal man, thank you very much. Soon enough, it looks like I’ve found him - his screen name is Lucky Suit, and he’s hilarious, quick-witted, and full of heart. But when we finally get together in person, I have the distinct feeling I’ve met him before. Funny enough - he says the same thing about me.
