I'll give this book some credit for a pretty original plot. 9 rich and privileged people who we find aren't that different from the rest of u with problem attend an expensive health resort where they are ***SPOILER ALERT*** drugged in an experimental see how they open up with drugs storyline. I found the storyline insulting.
Plus, I normally love this narrator, but her cadence was sooo slow I had to up the speed to 1.25 for her to sound normal.

Sherman had always thought high school was a real drag. He was looking forward to finishing his senior year so that he could coast through college, get a day job, and spend the rest of his life playing video games. He is used to seeing angels, but when a new girl transfers into his AP physics class, he thinks demons might be more his style.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It was hard to pick between Sebastian and Cindy. Both are portrayed hilariously.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the scene where the two bad guys come into the window right after Cindy and Sebastian's post-coital bliss. This book so spoofs the spy world, I could really visualize the scene.

What made the experience of listening to Out There the most enjoyable?

Out there is an autobiography of David who encounters all the bad things--job loss, addiction, and weight issues. He overcomes it all with tenacity and the support of his long-time wife. The best thing about this story is Mr. Clark's raw honesty.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Out There?

I was moved by the author's relationship with his father. My father recently died, and it was a little cathartic to hear the wise words taken to heart.

What does Al Kessel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I thought Al Kessel did a terrific job of bringing the right cadence to the story. I felt as if I was listening to the author and not someone just reading the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole thing. I have had similar problems on a smaller level--it made me feel much better to know that there are many out there with challenges.

What made the experience of listening to Murder at the Bijou the most enjoyable?

Murder at the Bijou is a story based in the 40's, where Joe Wilmot runs a cheap yet popular movie show in his small town. Since a noir novel always involves villians and damsels in distress, Joe has a lover in addiition to his homely wife as well as a millionaire competitor angling for his share of the theatre business. Hilarity ensues when there is murder, bribery, and double cross left and right.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Surprise ending! Thought I had it in the bag when in reality no one could have predicted this ending.

Have you listened to any of Mike Dennis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to and will continue to listen to Mike Dennis' performances. He has a perfect voice for noir.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed through the entire book--it was so visual for me. I pictured black and white characters in hats and rain coats and 40's era swing skirt dresses and pumps.
