Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

There is too much cursing in this one..... just cursing to curse..its actually annoying. The story is a bit wandering and slow sometimes and a bit silly in other places where it doesn't seem necessary but oh well. Not bad so I'm in for another while waiting for the next really engaging story.

Vaelin Al Sorna, warrior of the Sixth Order, called Darkblade, called Hope Killer. The greatest warrior of his day, and witness to the greatest defeat of his nation: King Janus' vision of a Greater Unified Realm drowned in the blood of brave men fighting for a cause Vaelin alone knows was forged from a lie. Sick at heart, he comes home, determined to kill no more. Named Tower Lord of the Northern Reaches by King Janus's grateful heir, he can perhaps find peace in a colder, more remote land far from the intrigues of a troubled Realm.

I wanted more action and more likeable characters and more background story. What I got was the most likeable character, in my opin....was made as lame and dumb as possible by books end. Even the heroine was a flop for me, not because she was older or a female but because she never got to be cool, but suckered, old , and mean...And the penultimate moment of finding out gets lamed out like the rest....this book is like watered down good books. Liked the performance, liked the idea, liked the potential........but in the end. I will pass on the sequels.

This was a clint eastwood with a baby and a sword....but rarely went kool. Mostly stayed mundane. Even the really neat parts would peter out and leave us with candy corn instead of hershey chocolates. And yes it could be whiny and droning at times. I had to take Harm brakes (that voice and dialogue) often. I would have liked to understand the sword tech more as well.

Its almost good and then we digress and the protagonists make another goofy move...you can even see where its headed. And why do the antagonists have it so easy? Like no one knows this stuff and suddenly or then they get help from...really? I just got annoyed after a while. More so because there is such potential for a great story. This is my last of this series unless I hit the "need a book bad wall" again.

I like the ideas and magic system in these books, but the main character has to be hit in the head with an idea before he takes in to heart....he still hasn't decided to take all the ideas and observations to heart but hey ..just because the 5 other people who were running with scissors just in front of you stabbed themselves doesn't mean you will..so be free run, Forrest run!....I would like this series much more if the main character made choices based on his intelligence level or at least did some thinking, all the smarter characters in these stories make the _(some horrible descriptor)__ choices..just saying.

Story: Basic Boy Meets Dragon and world and grows up.

Review: This is a bit like the Black Cauldron. You expect things to work out and they generally do. I was surprised at the lack of killing in the story, all these fights where they are trying to kill the main character or his dragon friend and no one dies..a little silly that. All in all an engaging story, esp if you aren't a tactics person or too focused on the details.

Writing:
The story is flow is pretty consistent, there were a few jumps where I felt the editor cut something or it was missing a transition.
