The only possible thing that could make Morgan's world even more difficult happened. The Japanese fleet off the coast of California was wiped out. An even that Morgan and friends and family only knew about because of the radio broadcasts from the Radio Free Redoubt. So far removed from them it barely warranted notice. That is until the Chinese retaliated by launching a nuclear counter-strike against Mac Dill Air Force base. This, did warrant their attention and had the potential to profoundly impact their lives.

What made the experience of listening to Conflicted Home the most enjoyable?

In a grid down situation, there is so much anguish and destruction. What I liked about this book is it offered hope. I kept expecting much worse to happen but it never did. I found myself feeling happy. People getting help when none was expected was a bright spot for me. When the book ended I had a smile on my face.

I have enjoyed this whole series. Thanks for this. I'm also looking forward to future books in this series.

I don't review that much. I usually leave that to others. But after reading some of the negative reviews, I figured I had to add my 2 cents.

This is plausible.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not on the edge of my seat but intriguing.

Any additional comments?

I am now on the last book. I'm glad I found this series. The only issue I have is the lengthy descriptions in the beginning.

In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

The anomaly came to be known as the Tunguska Event, and scientists have never agreed whether it was the largest meteor strike in recorded history - or something else. Alien artifacts have been uncovered since the 1908 event, and a new star drive is discovered.

Would you try another book from the authors and/or Scott Sowers?

Maybe from the authors but I doubt it. The narrator, no.

Has Out of the Ashes turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He was merely reading, not acting. Most of the characters had the same voice.

What character would you cut from Out of the Ashes?

None really.

Any additional comments?

Overall the storyline was disappointing. There were too many assumptions and no clarity as to how some conclusions were reached. I have read/listened to worse but not by much. It would take a lot to get me to try this series again. The base story has potential but that was left at the gate. If they continue this series I hope they put more thought and detail into it. I also hope they leave the narrator behind too.
