Graphic designer and University professor. I love comics and to be always learning something new!
He rocks scifi writing! Gonna listen all I can from this saga! Book one leaves you on the edge, need book 2 right now!
Read many of the Ender series. This one drags on, and dwells on the personal dimensions of forgettable characters. Found myself skipping sections which is usually a bad sign.
A bit overwrought. Inflection that was almost parabolic.
I have listened to Stefan Rudnicki in the Warrior of Rome series. He does another typical superb performance in this book as do the other narrators.
I was initially a little hesitant about purchasing this book but after listening to this story I am eagerly anticipating the second story in the series.
I love books and love talking about books. Hope my reviews are helpful!
The Formic War trilogy, being the final part of the Ender timeline books left for me to read, is going to be held to a higher standard. That being said, first time readers of Card, or sci fi in general, will find plenty to enjoy here.
The voice acting was superb. I thought Lem Jukes was perhaps overdone at times, as was 'Chubs', but Wit O'Toole was spot on (stern, focused and measured) as were most of the voice actors' performances. The story was action packed and avoided painful cliches expected in a 'first contact' story (for example, inexplicable desire to assume peaceful intent; think crowd on top of building in Independence Day), while also adhering to realistic guidelines (such as general disbelief by population en masse with the exception of a thoughtful few).
I would love to know how much of the action comes from Aaron Johnston, simply bc as fans of the Enders Saga know, Card doesn't generally spend much effort on hand to hand, bloody fights as he does on dialogue and thought provoking inner monologue from his subjects.
Overall, very well executed. Refreshing in style, and entertaining.
All the audio books on the ender series always have a way of painting pictures in my head. They captivate me and I can't stop listening. Earth unaware is by far one of the most exciting books in a long time. It was amazing and enjoyable
I couldn't even find it. First of all the voices. I couldn't stand the people voicing the miners, or anyone else for that matter. Didn't match anyone in my mind. Terrible.
The story wasn't good, but not for nothing, I'm not an Ender fan SK take it for what it's worth.
I only wish that they didn't end the first book the way they did. Without the second book, the first is just beginning. there was no real resolution to the real conflict. I will keep listening.
To sum up how stupid this book is (please note, I am an Ender fan, and generally like Orson, who in this case probably just got paid to lend his name ) multiple times they feel the need to stop a spaceship so that they can get out and fix it.
Laughably stupid, badly written and poorly narrated. Shame to ruin a great possible prequel.
