A banal collection of tired tropes, stereotypes, poor tactical decisions and bad physics. OSC should not have put his name on this.
This story was a great lead in to the war but I have to say it is frustrating in parts particularly the beginning lead in I was just cringing at the idea of what Victor was now expressing... I just wanted to go alright alright I get it now please stop pushing the flood waters over the dam and let's move on with the story. If you like the Enduro stories you will like this story... I just hate it when we get left in a lurch... I had to buy more credits to continue the series now vs waiting for another month for a new credit
Good enough to make you want to finish it, but it wasn't anything that really captivated me. It had just enough exciting parts mixed in with all the talk about relationships to keep me into it. It was light on the suspense and action.
Excellent characters as usual, excellent performance, but I'm very disappointed at the way they keep stopping the spaceships when they need to go outside.
The author understands horses and cars. Spaceships move differently.
At one point, a character on a trip from the Oort Cloud to Earth stops his tiny ship to go outside and install shielding, spending days decelerating and then accelerating back to speed. If he had 2X extra fuel he could have used it at the start and end to shorten the trip.
Others used magnets to extract metals from an asteroid. Could get iron but not all metals.
Almost all science fiction is pure fantasy - but at least give an excuse such as antimatter fuel or a fancy space drive. These were traditional rockets.
I'm very disappointed in one of my favorite authors.
Are the editors also 3rd grade dropouts?
I went into this audiobook with trepidation. While I enjoyed Ender's Game and Speaker, Mr. Card's political views have made me wary of reading any more of his work. Lo and behold I shouldn't have worried, because the physics in this novel are so wonky I had to stop every ten minutes and say "Whhhhaaatttt?" Some quick examples: why would you come to a "full stop" to go on space walks or eject other spacecraft from your cargo bay? What is a "full stop" anyways? How do these spacecraft decelerate without a turn and burn? Why would someone say a spacecraft is moving at 50% of light speed and subsequently say that it's moving at 70000 mph? Which, for reference, is only 4x faster than the ISS orbits earth.
It's almost as if one of the authors tried to write a hard scifi novel and the other one took a huge hit of nitrous and started editing. I'm not even going to get into the cousin love aspects of this story.
The performance of this sorry book was actually quite good. Unfortunately I cannot recommend the book on the performance alone. If you're looking for good scifi - look elsewhere.
Great cast of voice actors as well as an amazingly well written book. Scott Card might be the Tolkien of Science Fiction!
I love that they use a cast for this book, each voice actor provides a look into each different main character.
I almost did listen to it in one sitting really hard to put down.
I was right there on the ships living alongside the characters. l was spacewalking and grappling with aliens. Great writing.
This was my second time reading this book after having listened to the most recent addition to the series and it hold up so well. Awesome scifi, action, space adventure. What more could you want!!
It was amazing! If you are reading the series like me, read in order of how it happened in the Endervise instead of Ender's Game then Speaker for the dead Etc
