Maura and Jane are at it again. Great book and easy listening. Many twists and turns with a surprise ending. Cant' wait to read more in this series.
I did not enjoy this book as much as previous Tess Gerritsen titles. I am not sure if it was the book itself, or the narrator. I was not fond of her random inflections. For whatever reason, she made simple statements and questions sound sarcastic or surprised or she ascribed other random emotions to things that did not seem logical in the context. It was distracting.
I love mysteries of all types and have read a few of Gerritsen's other books. I found her previous work just OK (she's no P.D. James) but I didn't dislike the books. However, listening to her material has changed my mind. Too much melodrama and hackneyed phrased as in "she slapped the file photos on the table" - the cop "slapped" those photos several times throughout the story. The dialogue is unrealistic and everyone sounds like they barely got through elementary school. They're supposed to be professionals, but they don't sound like. I was a bit insulted - as if the author was writing for an audience of 9 year olds. The reader played everyone as a breathy female which added to my dislike and furthered the melodramatic tone. However, the one positive note I have is I liked the ending. Since I paid for this audio book, I forced myself to listen to it, but this will be my last Gerritsen.
Enjoyable suspense novel. T.G kept a lot of her ongoing characters & continued their development. This was great. The plot was a bit belabored at points from what I'm accustomed to from T.G. which is why I only gave it 4 stars. There's evidence of lots of archeology research which was very interesting. The narrator differentiated well enough to keep up with the various characters so that made it easy to follow. I'm glad I bought the book.
This was my first Tess Gerritsen book and I found it very enjoyable. The story is engaging and moves along at a decent pace with good twists and turns. I never found myself bored with it. The only drawback is the narration. The reader's voice is a little irritating, but it's not to the point that I ever wanted to stop listening.
This keep me on the edge of my seat. It was riveting and full of surprises. I recommend to everyone.
I really enjoyed this book - couldn't wait to get back it the car to listen to it. The narrator was wonderful too. Interesting story line; highly recommend this one.
