After rereading the book at the onset of middle age, reporter Mark Richardson tuned up his old Suzuki dirt bike and became a "Pirsig Pilgrim".

From an early age Fuss discovered the need for discipline and hard work through his love for sports, and the desire to be the best. The creative influence of the music and fashion of the 60’s and 70’s, highly influenced Fuss and his passion for the artistic movements that fuelled this generation. His attention to detail and his desire for perfection grew as he discovered the path that he was destined for. As was common for this era, smoking pot and hash became a part of his lifestyle and helped elevate his creativity, and expand his entrepreneurial skills.
