Ireland's patron saint has long been shrouded in legend: he drove the snakes out of Ireland; he triumphed over Druids and their super-natural powers; he used a shamrock to explain the Christian mystery of the Trinity. But his true story is more fascinating than the myths.

We think of fairies as little winged people with magic wands, but Irish fairies were flesh-and-blood extraterrestrials who towered over humans. We knew them as angels, demons, phantoms, mermaids, fairies, gods and not-gods, and the Gentry. In 1962 Sara Regan and her friend Alina plan an escape for her their friend Anita, a Magdalene girl at the St Mary Magdalene asylum. After the escape plan fails, Sara and Alina are sent to the asylum and subjected to abuse and torment at the hands of the Nun's.
