The two friends struggle to adapt to the wider world and desperately cling on to their roots in Kilbackie, a place that lies deep within their souls and defines them. They have been moulded by its wind and rain, the sea mist that swirls across the Minch runs through their veins and the sound of birds and the rhythm of crofting life shape their language. Death, love, and jealousy destroy Angus' dream of returning to Kilbackie, but there is a glimmer of hope.
