Golden Queen

Insectoid Dronons have slain the queen Semarritte, throwing into chaos the ten thousand worlds over which she reigned. Desperate to save mankind, Lord Veriasse, Semarritte's near-immortal consort, has created a new queen: Everynne, cloned from her dead mother. Born to rule, Everynne instead is on the run, often only one planet ahead of advancing forces of the invaders, who recognize that Everynne is a powerful rallying point for threatened humanity.

In Book 2 of the "Golden Queen" trilogy, Maggie Flynn has become, by test of combat, the new Golden Queen. Maggie and her companions, the bounty hunter Gallen O'Day and the sentient bear Orick, face an attack by Dronons on a planet where humans have achieved the pinnacle of genetic engineering. The trio must stop the invaders while guarding the secret of Maggie's whereabouts, for she is only the Golden Queen until her champion, Gallen, is defeated by a Dronon challenger.

In the concluding book of the "Golden Queen" trilogy, the insectoid Dronons have lost their queen, and their invasion has ground to a halt. Unable to deviate from natural law, the invaders cannot continue their conquest of the galaxy until a Dronon is once again the Golden Queen. To do that, they must defeat Maggie Flynn, the beautiful orphan who now reigns.
