Shabby and lumbering, with a face like a Norfolk dumpling, Father Brown makes for an improbable super-sleuth. But his innocence is the secret of his success: refusing the scientific method of detection, he adopts instead an approach of simple sympathy, interpreting each crime as a work of art, and each criminal as a man no worse than himself… Here you will find the complete Father Brown stories in the chronological order of their original publication. The Innocence of Father Brown Starts at Chapter 1, The Wisdom of Father Brown Starts at Chapter 13.

Chesterton's allegorical masterpiece is a surreal, psychologically thrilling novel that centres on seven anarchists in turn of the century London who call themselves by the names of days of the week. The story begins when poet Gabriel Syme is recruited as a detective to a secret anarchist division of Scotland Yard by a shrouded, nameless person. Syme infiltrates a secret meeting of anarchists who are intent on destroying the world and becomes known as 'Thursday', one of the seven members of the Central Anarchist Council.

Etienne Gilson, one of the greatest Thomist scholars of the twentieth century, called this the best book ever written on St. Thomas Aquinas. Not the most thorough. The best. G. K. Chesterton published The Dumb Ox in 1933, without consulting a single secondary source, and produced what remains the most widely read short account of Aquinas's life and thought ever written. It is not a scholarly biography. It is a portrait, drawn by one of the twentieth century's great minds, of the philosopher he believed the modern world needed most. That Gilson, a man who spent his life in the technical ...

In this 1905 collection of essays, G. K. Chesterton contests the growing intolerance for religious thinking and theological debate. He calls out friends and contemporaries - George Bernard Shaw, Rudyard Kipling, and H. G. Wells, among others - who hold divided views on art, literature, and politics but universally dismiss orthodox opinions on God and the cosmos.

Father Brown, a modest, mild-mannered priest with a sharp intellect and even sharper sense of the human condition, is thrown into a series of mysteries which often baffle both his peers and the authorities. Despite his humble appearance, Father Brown can easily detect falsehoods, see through disguises and defy tampered logic to get to the truth. From cases of theft, fraud and murders with no apparent weapon, Brown remains calm in the face of evil time and time again, utilising compassion, empathy and keen intuition.

The Flying Inn is a satirical novel by G.K. Chesterton, first published in 1914. The story is set in a future England where a repressive ideology dominates the country’s political and social life. The narrative follows the adventures of Humphrey Pump and Captain Patrick Dalroy as they travel around the country in a donkey cart with a barrel of rum in order to evade prohibition. The two men spread good cheer wherever they go on their journey, which encounters romance, revolution, and a host of memorable characters.

The year is 1984. The British government has become impersonal and apathetic, not run by a particular party or corresponding ideology, but by the random selection of a new figurehead each year. When the eccentric Auberon Quin is chosen to lead the country, the nation begins to take a whimsical turn. In an attempt to liven up London, Auberon transforms the city into a mock-medieval town, complete with crests, flags and costumes. Everything is a joke–that is until Adam Wayne, a young man claiming to be the Napoleon of Notting Hill, begins to take it seriously.

In The Everlasting Man, G. K. Chesterton paints the full panorama of human history in light of Christian tradition. Highly influential in C. S. Lewis' conversion from atheism to Christianity, this book continues to inspire new generations of listeners.

"Nothing more strangely indicates an enormous and silent evil of modern society than the extraordinary use which is made nowadays of the word orthodox. In former days the heretic was proud of not being a heretic. It was the kingdoms of the world and the police and the judges who were heretics. He was orthodox. He had no pride in having rebelled against them; they had rebelled against him. The armies with their cruel security, the kings with their cold faces, the decorous processes of State, the reasonable processes of law - all these like sheep had gone astray...."

"St. Francis was above all things a great giver; and he cared chiefly for the best kind of giving which is called thanksgiving.... He knew that the praise of God stands on its strongest ground when it stands on nothing. He knew that we can best measure the towering miracle of the mere fact of existence if we realize that but for some strange mercy we should not even exist...." - G. K. Chesterton
