2024 marks the 10th year of Lan, a two-time international student (first in Belarus, then in the U.S.) and cultural psychologist, being in the United States. Lan shares with me her love-hate relationship with the roadblocks—the H1B visa and immigration status—that stand in her dream of becoming a professor. There were many times she felt like giving up on academia because the ride it's too rugged. The lack of freedom of choice makes her feel vulnerable. Nonetheless, she managed to turn her vision from 10 years ago into reality.

Professor in HR and organizational behavior, mama of two boys, coffee shop owner and a new-coming Q-grade, Ning joins me today to talk about a path that she never planned. There are sparkles in Ning’s eyes whenever she talks about teaching or her students, she did not imagined to be a professor at first. Product is not the only thing Ming designs. A marketer turned product designer, our guest of this episode also designs her own life and career path.
