    Welcome to Neighborlee, Ohio.

Neighborlee is a place you need to experience.

The most important thing you need to understand: Neighborlee is magic. Some people say the town is alive. It exists to protect the weird and wonderful (and sometimes a little bit scary) from the cold, practical, material world.

More important, Neighborlee protects the outside world from the weird and wonderful that come to visit … and sometimes come to stay.

Each month of 2025, we focus on 1 book in the Neighborlee series. You'll hear the first chapter of the featured book here, and can purchase it at a discount on YeOldeDragonBooks.com, in print, e, and audio. Plus there will be excerpts throughout the month on MichelleLevigne.blogspot.com, inside information, a chance to ask questions, and pop quizzes to earn points toward free books. And other goodies and fun stuff once we think of them!

Plus, if you've read any of the Neighborlee books and posted a review, email us at 2OldeDragons@gmail.com and give us the link, and you'll earn even more points toward more Neighborlee books.

    This month's featured book:

    Night of the Living Proof

The shadows from Lanie's past continue to haunt her and her friends as Neighborlee moves from Christmas to New Year's Eve. Something or someone is tampering with the magical defenses of the town. Things and people disappear and reappear, with no explanation, and gaps in memories and time. An age-old nemesis is gathering its strength for another attempt to shatter the door that Divine's Emporium holds shut.

Sylvia Grandstone returns, and she's got her sights set on Daniel, Lanie's new boss. It's the same old Grandstone scheme to gain power and wealth by any means possible, including marriage. It would be easy to blame Sylvia for the new problems and mysteries, applying the Jessica Fletcher theory of crime-solving: the most famous guest artist is the murderer. However, Sylvia's years in Hollywood never got her anywhere near star status, and no one would ever believe she could be a criminal mastermind. Or so the guardians would like to believe.

As New Year's Eve approaches at Eden, the Neighborlee community center, the disappearances and time gaps increase. Instead of trying to convince town officials to cancel the New Year's Eve party, the guardians prepare for a showdown, and brace themselves to do what they have always done: defend the people of Neighborlee from the outside world, and defend the outside world from the magic and wonder and general weirdness that is Neighborlee, Ohio.

Welcome to a new episode of Ye Olde Dragon's Library storytelling podcast!

Season 9 features a complete short story each week

IN THE GARDEN OF ALWAYS WINTER

Growing up in the enchanted castle with a pet dragon named Smedley is always an adventure. Especially when sleeping magic wakes up and tries to cause trouble.

'Na was given a snow globe full of magic at her christening. Her parents didn't know who sent it to her, so they knew it had to be dangerous. They locked it away until they could find answers.

Then one fall day, the snow globe wakes up and shows a door to a garden at the enchanted castle: The Garden of Always Winter, where snow covers everything.

'Na's parents make her promise not to go through the gate into the garden without them, because it could be dangerous.

She really did want to obey them.

    But …

    First the gate opened.

Then the snow ogres came through.

Then Smedley picked her up and threw her on his back, and he raced through the gate to get away from the ogres.

What is hiding under the snow?

    Is it dangerous?

What can a little girl and her dragon who is still learning how to use his fire do to break a curse hundreds of years old?

Welcome to a new episode of Ye Olde Dragon's Library storytelling podcast!

Season 9 features a complete short story each week

    TRUE LOVE'S PIGS

If 'Na and Ambrose could have things their way, their wedding would be small, simple, and reserved just for their closest friends.

However, the wedding of the daughter of the lord and lady of the enchanted castle threatens to be an important event of world-shaking proportions. And Circe-Beth, 'Na's nemesis from her school days, is determined to not just take center stage, but get some revenge on anybody who doesn't do things her way.

She has taken up a new, strange magical practice where people called "event planners" try to take over the minds of crowds through food, decorations, music, and even controlling the clothes people wear. Then, Circe-Beth announces she is not just 'Na's event planner, but her maid of honor.

'Na and Ambrose and their closest friends are forced to take drastic measures to keep control of the wedding plans. As Circe-Beth closes in, determined to take control, she comes up against King Ruprick, who wants to take over the wedding planning as well.

Circe-Beth's only real magical power is to turn people into pigs, and she doesn't care how large a herd of pigs she creates in her quest to finally be in control.

    ALERT!

This story is included in the new Fairytale Anthology, TROUBLE COMES IN THREES, coming May 1 from Ye Olde Dragon Books. The theme? Three Little Pigs!
