  • Writeopolis S9 E1 - The Tiny Bookcase crossover
    Nov 4 2025

Season 9 kicks off with a glorious crossover with Ben and Nico from The Tiny Bookcase!

In this episode (which may have slightly exceeded the 1 hour timeslot):

    • RJ returns! Along with the clicky pen. And then goes on to explain how he nearly died. Don't worry, only nearly.

    • Ben manages to get the word 'banjanxed' into the show, which left the citizens suitably impressed.

    • Talk gets unexpectedly spicy

    • RJ and Scott fail to do the homework, which inevitably leads to Scott being fired

    • RJ fundamentally misunderstands the concept of 'moving on'

    • The Tiny Bookcase theme tune is seamlessly inserted into the edit and the differences between Writeopolis's and The Tiny Bookcase's editing processes are made abundantly clear

    • Eventually we reach The Tiny Bookcase portion of the episode and Ben, Nico and Kit (who actually did the homework) all read their short stories to the shared prompt of Frown – I'm giving no details on this part of the show as any details would be considered spoilers, but it's delightful!

Listen in for all this and more!

Please be aware there is a content warning for episode due to discussion of sexual assault in TV shows

  • Writeopolis S8 E8 - Jonathan Zaurin
    Oct 28 2025

In this extremely unique episode of Writeopolis, we have Kit flying solo as host to the wonderful Jonathan Zaurin!

The two discuss the film Derelict, its premier at Fright Fest and the dangers in trying to keep such things secret, as well as the joys and struggles of making indie films. They also touch upon the perils of losing time to video games, the lack of risk-taking in Hollywood and both Jonathan and Kit reveal their very strong opinions on musicals and musical episodes.

Listeners will also get a sneak peak at the very recently released Millionaire's Day and King Kong comes up in conversation, which is a complete surprise to everyone in an episode where Kit is the only host.

    Enjoy!

  • Writeopolis S8 E5 - Fantasy Book Club crossover
    Oct 21 2025

After the success of our previous crossover episode, we decided to do it again, this time with Fantasy Book Swap!

The Fantasy Book Swap part of the episode discusses Devil on the Road by Robert Westall and Unraveller by Frances Hardinge, which inevitably includes:

    • the delights of second hand bookshops and whether they're all secretly drug fronts.

    • a deep dive into the English civil war.

    • Ali getting spirited away to another time zone

    • and whether the benefits of a curse outweigh the problems

The Writeopolis part of the episode lowers the tone with:

    • RJ being blamed for something when he wasn't even there

    • Scott not doing the homework and getting sacked. Again.

    • And the ever relevant conversation about Owen's dubious love of parsnips

Listen in for all this and more!

  • Writeopolis S8 E4 - Rebecca Levene
    Oct 7 2025

Season 8 continues with the delightful Rebecca Levene as guest! Including:

    • In a move that will shock absolutely no one, Dr Who is discussed! The inclusion of Labyrinth in that same conversation was certainly a surprise though.

    • Scott reads some actual books. Disgraceful behaviour on a writing-adjacent podcast, quite frankly.

    • Rebecca gets the citizens very excited about her current writing, which she describes as "I am Legend the movie, set in Yorkshire, but chick lit, also lesbian". Yes please (As an update, The Last Woman On Earth by Bex Benjamin is out now!!)

    • Kit goes on a deep dive into Stephen King

    • Rebecca briefly upsets the sandwich shop of dreams then talks about the most wholesome zombie running app ever

  • Writeopolis S8 E2 - Eliza Chan
    Sep 30 2025

Unfortunately, Craig, the ever-fickle recording bot, decided to do an update 6 minutes into James Worrad's episode so there is no recording of the first episode of Season 8. Don't worry, James will return!!

Craig knew better than to misbehave for Eliza Chan though and so here we have episode 2 of season 8 in all its glory! Including:

    - Some egregious spreadsheet slander

    - Scott attempting to communicate through morse code

    - Anime makes an unexpected appearance

    - Eliza talks mermaid tales, delightful murderous children's mascots in Japan and hopping vampires

    - RJ announces we're ten minutes from the end a full twenty minutes before the actual end. Very on brand.

    - Eliza gives an excellent ur text answer

    - And the playlist descends into utter chaos

  • Writeopolis S7 E4 - Host only
    Sep 16 2025

Season 7 continues with another host only episode in which:

    - RJ is sad his favourite sweet has been discontinued
    - RJ then proceeds to offend everyone with his opinion on Die Hard (and no, it has nothing to do with whether or not it's a Christmas movie)
    - Scott goes into a deep dive of what the Fast and the Furious actually is (spreadsheets at the ready!)
    - Kit gives spoilers for WW2
    - Kit and Scott discuss the psychology and ableism inherent in The Traitors
    - Scott is vexed by a greenhouse. Repeatedly.
    - There's an unusual amount of actual craft talk as well as lots of talk about upcoming writing
    - There's an exciting first where a citizen gets to put an entry into the Sandwich Shop of Dreams! And immediately makes the hosts hungry
    - And then the very simple task of the playlist goes wildly off-topic, to the surprise of no one.

Apologies for the technical issues during this episode, Discord was having a tantrum, but we hope you enjoy it anyway!

  • Writeopolis S7 E3 - Adrian Tchaikovsky
    Sep 2 2025

Next up in Season 7 we had the delightful Adrian Tchaikovsky!

Amongst discussions of Adrian's prolific writing we encounter:

    - RJ attempting some rapping in the intro

    - Scott telling a delightful anecdote about Buxton

    - The long lost Bosch is mentioned purely for bingo purposes

    - Segue rears its head again and almost annoys the guest. Almost.

    - We took a deep dive into two of Adrian's books

    - And actual writing advice was discussed! (mostly to say how it's generally useless)

Listen in for all this and more delightfully entertaining nonsense

  • Writeopolis S7 E2 - Sunyi Dean
    Aug 26 2025

Season 7's first guest episode kicks it off with Sunyi talking all things Star Trek, Farscape, Patrick Stewart's biography and villains wearing BDSM clothes. RJ expresses his longing for ceremonial robes and his extremely controversial music opinions. There is some outstanding talk of Santa Jaws and The Velocipastor. Everyone is shocked by actual discussions of writing things and Kit brings things back to normal by predicting this episode would be released a month after recording.
