At the end of Ruth chapter 1 we left a depressed Naomi traveling back to Bethlehem with Ruth who refuses to leave her side. It is a bleak time of famine and loss. However chapter 2 of the book of Ruth opens with a burst of hope 'there is a kinsman -- a man of wealth whose name is Boaz.'
