Almost half of Afghanistan's population are women. These women have always sought self-sufficiency and education, but for the last 20 years, have struggled for autonomy under the deep-seated patriarchy established during Taliban rule. Despite this, they have never given up. Before 2021, Afghan women were visible in prominent positions in the government and the private sector. Since the Taliban's return to power in August 2021, these women have all but disappeared from public life. In this episode, Zahra Shaheer asks, what has happened to the women of Afghanistan?
