Ruja (rooja) was born in Iran and moved to the US as a teenager, growing up in Albuquerque NM. She holds an Associate degree in Computer Animation, BA in University Studies (gender studies- women of Middle East) from University of New Mexico, and Master of Public Administration (non for profit management global leadership) from Portland State University.

She is active in the non for profit fields locally working with refugee and immigrant populations. She is a social justice advocate and a civil social activist and organizer working mainly in the Iranian diaspora. She has been a board member of DoYourPart.org a USA based non for profit focused on disaster relief, and Secretary of Iranian Circle of Women for International Networking (ICWIN).

As a member of Women Intercultural Network (WIN) she has visited the United Nations (UN) as a delegate to the Commission on Status of Women (CSW) and has helped organize Panels on Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and Women issued in Iran.
