Christine and I are angry - we re trying to work out why we are so easily led into obedience when it comes to body image and dieting. Watching people (in particular celebrities) shrink before our very eyes is NOT an invitation to do the same, rather, it should be a cause for concern - it shows that we are still way too focussed on appearances and unattainable 'beauty' standards.
This misdirected focus keeps us under control - we haven't got time to make the world a better place if we are trying so hard to be thinner, less wrinkly, hunt for the latest fashion apparel or follow a mind-boggling supplement regime.
Obediently following these 'trends' might make you feel like you 'fit in', but it takes you away from your authentic self, from taking up space in the world.
And thinking of people who struggle with disordered eating and eating disorders - how the hell can they recover in this narrative?
The rise of skinny-tok has overshadowed a lot of the fat acceptance and intuitive eating messages, but we are here to keep talking about it!
What can we do? Be aware of when things you see online make you feel uncomfortable or bad about yourself. Follow people who call out misinformation (here are some good ones to check out: @michaelulloapt
@drjoshuawolrich
@priya_tew
@prescription_strength_uk
@everything_endocrine ).
And get angry with us!

Much love
