Title: The Arrest of Louis Geri: How a Catastrophic Attack on a D.C. Cathedral Was Thwarted

On the morning of the high-profile "Red Mass" in October 2025, a potentially catastrophic attack on the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, D.C., was narrowly averted when police confronted Louis Geri, 41, who had set up a tent on the cathedral steps, refusing to leave despite being previously banned. Geri allegedly threatened officers with explosives, stating that "several of your people are going to die from one of these." Upon his arrest, authorities discovered a large cache of over 200 homemade destructive devices—including Molotov cocktails and other explosives containing the potent compound nitromethane—along with a "negotiation" document that revealed his significant animosity towards the Catholic church, members of the Jewish faith, and Supreme Court Justices. Geri was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a Molotov cocktail and manufacture or possession of a weapon of mass destruction in furtherance of a hate crime, sparking a federal investigation involving the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
