When We Are Trying to Find Our Way

“Walk as children of light—for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true.”

— Ephesians 5:8–9

Sometimes it’s hard for us to find our path.

Yes, there are some people whose gifts seem obvious

and whose sense of purpose appears clear from the start.

And they are truly blessed.

But for most of us, the path is not so clear.

We have to discover our gifts,

our passions,

and our purpose.

So how do we know

when we are moving in the right direction?

We notice the fruit.

When we walk in the pathways of love,

compassion, kindness, mercy, and justice—

When our lives are growing

in love, joy, peace, patience,

resilience, and perseverance—

When the places we inhabit

become a little better

because we are there—

then we can trust

that we are walking in the light.

Sometimes the path becomes clear only as we walk it.
