When Mercy Is Refused

The Great Controversy - Chapter 1 – Destruction of Jerusalem By Zeres Vitto

Verse 1 — Jerusalem (A.D. 70)

The city crowned with sacred walls, Where prophets wept and mercy called, Chose temple pride and legal might And turned from Heaven’s living Light. They said, “We have no king but law,” They handed truth to Caesar’s sword, And Rome obeyed the priestly cry— Religion ruled, and conscience died.

Pre-Chorus — Christ’s Warning He warned them softly line on line He wept before the fall of time, Grace lingered long, escape was near— But truth rejected sealed their fear.

Chorus — The Principle When mercy’s voice is pushed aside, And power claims what God denied, Judgment comes—not sudden, wild— But chosen paths, long reconciled. Not wrath unleashed, not random flame, But harvest reaped from chosen blame— When worship bends to human law, The city falls… the pattern draws.

Verse 2 — Daniel 7 (The Pattern Revealed) A horn arose with sacred tongue, Spoke words too great for mortal lungs, It wore the robe of Heaven’s name Yet changed the law and forged the chain. By courts and crowns the saints were pressed, By legal fear their faith confessed, The beast wore church, the sword wore state— And judgment waited at the gate.

Chorus — The Principle (Repeat)

When mercy’s voice is pushed aside, And power claims what God denied, Judgment comes—not sudden, wild— But chosen paths, long reconciled. Not wrath unleashed, not random flame, But harvest reaped from chosen blame— When worship bends to human law, The city falls… the pattern draws.

Verse 3 — Revelation 13 (The Pattern Repeats) A lamb-like voice, a dragon breath, Two powers joined to rule by threat, An image formed by borrowed flame, Old sins revived in modern name. No mark of claw, no idol seen, But worship forced by legal means, Buy or sell, obey or bleed— The ancient lie in global creed.

Bridge — Sunday Law / Worship Crisis It’s not the day—it’s who commands, It’s not the rest—it’s whose decree stands, Tradition crowned where truth once stood, Man’s word enforced in place of good. The Sabbath still divides the line: God’s rest or rest redefined— God seals with love--the beast marks by fear. The voice of God… or Caesar here.

Verse 4 — The Escape (Then & Now) Once Rome withdrew, the faithful fled, They trusted words their Savior said, No sword pursued, no fire consumed— Obedience made the grave a womb. So now again, before the storm, A final call, a saving norm: “Come out,” He cries, “be free, be Mine— Before the fall… before the sign.”

Final Chorus — The Great Controversy The war is truth versus the throne, God’s voice or power overthrown, No neutral ground, no borrowed light, We stand by love—or rule by might. Jerusalem still speaks today, A city’s fall, a world’s delay— Choose whom you serve, whom you obey, Before the close… of mercy’s day.

Outro The judgment waits, the books are clear, The Lamb still pleads, the door is near, Not forced by law, not bound by fear— But love alone will keep us here.

Choose whom you serve, whom you obey, Before the close… of mercy’s day.
