Then, in our monthly Speak Out segment, we turn to an important development in the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights. The latest effort to overturn marriage equality came from former Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, who petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. On November 10, 2025, the Court declined to hear the case — leaving Obergefell fully intact. And while several state legislatures have advanced symbolic resolutions calling for its reversal, the Court’s refusal, combined with protections in the Respect for Marriage Act, ensures that marriage equality remains firmly the law of the land at the moment. We’ll unpack what this means going forward with attorney Angela Giampolo of Giampolo Law and the blog Philly Gay Lawyer.
