Have you ever read the Bible and wondered, "King David did what?!" Or, have you come across the passage where Lot's daughters get him drunk and then sleep with him? How about the story of the younger brother that makes himself more hairy in order to trick his dying father into blessing him over his older brother?! And, don't get us started on Revelations! Oh wait, it's Revelation! These are only a few of the examples written in scripture that will have any new reader asking, "What in the Bible?!" In this podcast, we are two sisters reading through the Bible for the first time. Our goal is to share this experience with our listeners and have a lighthearted discussion over some of these controversial but often comical questions. Our hope is for our listeners to realize that reading and understanding the Bible is hard especially when reading it for the first time. It's okay to have questions or struggle with passages that make your eyebrows raise and your mind wonder, "What did I just read?!" We hope you will join us in this journey of working through difficult questions and growing in our relationship with Christ as we read and seek to understand God's Word.

The story of Cain and Abel reveals how quickly sin progressed from disobedience to murder in just one generation. Sisters Audrey and Jenna explore Genesis 4, discovering profound insights about heart posture, worship, and the consequences of unchecked jealousy.

When Eve gives birth to Cain, she immediately acknowledges God's role in creating new life—a stark contrast to her previous self-reliance in the Garden. This spiritual growth sets the stage for a chapter full of revelations about humanity's relationship with God. We discover that Abel's offering pleased God not because of what he gave, but because of his faithful heart behind the gift. Meanwhile, Cain's casual approach to worship leads to rejection and anger.

God's warning to Cain contains one of scripture's most powerful images: "Sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." This language reveals both the predatory nature of temptation and humanity's God-given authority to overcome it—a spiritual principle that remains profoundly relevant today.

The sisters trace the development of two distinct family lines: Cain's descendants who introduce polygamy, boastful violence, and the first musical instruments, versus Seth's godly lineage who "began to call on the name of the Lord." Through careful examination of biblical names and their meanings, Audrey and Jenna uncover how these parallel genealogies establish a pattern of spiritual warfare that continues throughout history.

Whether you're new to Bible study or a seasoned reader, this episode offers fresh perspectives on worship, sin, mercy, and the subtle ways our choices echo through generations. Listen in as these two sisters bring warmth, humor, and thoughtful analysis to one of Genesis's most pivotal chapters.

  • Kick Rocks, Satan: The Genesis of Deception
    Apr 28 2025

Satan's first deception wasn't a blatant lie but a subtle distortion. "Did God really say...?" With these words, he planted seeds of doubt about God's goodness that continue to sprout in our lives today. In Genesis 3, we witness humanity's catastrophic fall from perfect fellowship with God into sin and separation – a moment that fundamentally altered every relationship we experience.

What makes this chapter so powerful is seeing how quickly Eve's perception changed after that initial seed of doubt. The forbidden fruit suddenly appeared "good for food," "pleasing to the eye," and "desirable for gaining wisdom." This progression from temptation to justification to action mirrors our own struggles with sin so closely it's almost uncomfortable to read. And when Adam accepts the fruit without question, we're confronted with how profoundly our choices affect those around us.

The aftermath reveals another timeless pattern: instead of owning their actions, Adam and Eve hide in shame and shift blame. Adam points fingers at both Eve and God himself, while Eve blames the serpent. Yet despite their rebellion, God responds with a remarkable blend of justice and mercy. While pronouncing consequences for their actions, He also makes the first sacrifice—clothing them with animal skins—and delivers the first gospel promise that one day, the offspring of woman would crush the serpent's head.

This isn't just ancient history; it's the story playing out in our lives whenever we question God's goodness, follow our own wisdom, or try to cover our shame with inadequate solutions of our own making. But it also contains the incredible hope that God's redemptive plan began unfolding the very moment we needed it most. The same God who walked in Eden seeking His rebellious children continues to seek relationship with us today, having made a way back through Jesus Christ.

How does understanding the original fall change your perspective on temptation and God's redemptive plan? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments or through a review!

  • A Rib, A River, and Really Bad Directions to Eden
    Apr 2 2025

Genesis 2 introduces us to profound questions about God's design. Why would God create the Tree of Knowledge if He knew humans would sin? We explore how this apparent setup for failure actually reveals God's incredible gift of free will. He doesn't want robots programmed to love Him—He wants genuine relationship with people who choose Him willingly. This choice, while opening the door to sin, also created the pathway for His redemption plan through Jesus.

The creation of woman offers powerful insights about gender and marriage. When God took from Adam's "side" (not just a rib) to create Eve, He established a partnership of equals. This profound act set the foundation for marriage—two becoming one flesh—that reflects God's relationship with His people and Christ's love for the church. We delve into how the Hebrew word for "helper" (ezer) reveals women's divine strength, as this same word describes God Himself throughout scripture.

We also embark on a fascinating cartographic journey, tracing the four rivers that flowed from Eden to pinpoint where this garden might have existed. By tracking the Tigris, Euphrates, and other waterways, we discover compelling evidence that Eden may have been located in the highlands of modern-day Armenia. While maps and biblical geography might seem dry, understanding the physical context adds rich dimension to these foundational stories of creation.

What does it mean that Adam and Eve were "naked without shame"? Beyond physical nakedness, this speaks to complete vulnerability, trust, and acceptance—a quality of relationship God intended from the beginning. As you join our journey through Genesis 2, we invite you to reflect on how these ancient words reveal timeless truths about God's original design for humanity, partnership, rest, and our need for genuine relationship with our Creator.
