What God Sees That We Often Miss
1 Samuel 16:7
“For the LORD does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.”
It is easy to judge each other quickly.
We form impressions based on what we see on the surface—
race, gender, class, nationality, geography, religion, orientation, profession, hairstyle, wardrobe.
From those outward things, we begin to make assumptions.
But scripture gives us another measure.
God does not see the way we see.
Where we notice appearances,
God looks deeper—
to the heart,
to our intentions,
to the unspoken motivations that drive our actions.
Perhaps that is an invitation for us.
To slow down.
To take the time to truly know one another
before writing each other off.
Because beneath the surface of every life
there is always more to see.
And often, much more to love.
It may be a reflection worth returning to.
