  • How the Michigan OHSP and Michigan State Police are working to reduce speed-related crashes and fatalities(07-06-25)
    Jul 10 2025
In this episode, host Phil Tower speaks with Alicia Sledge, the director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning.

Alicia, you're joining us to talk about the state's ever to crack down on speeding during the busy summer driving season.
The good news: In Michigan, speeding-related crashes and fatalities have been decreasing. There was a 20% drop in speed-involved crashes in 2023 compared to 2022, and a 32% decrease since 2019.
The still bad: Speed was a factor in 210 fatalities and 6,848 injuries in Michigan in 2023.

Exceeding the speed limit is more than just breaking traffic laws—it represents dangerous behavior that threatens the safety of everyone on the road.

    Jul 1 2025
In this segment, host Phil Tower welcomes Dr. Andrew Jameson, the Specialty Medical Director at Trinity Health Medical Group in West Michigan and Section Chief of Infectious Diseases at Trinity Health Grand Rapids hospital.

Michigan currently has 15 confirmed measles cases, with 7 cases considered part of an ongoing outbreak, according to the State of Michigan. This outbreak is the first in Michigan since 2019.
Without any doubt, measles presents a significant public health concern when identified in any community.
Dr. Jameson discussed how measles is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable disease that is spread by direct person-to-person contact and that it can live for up to 2 hours in the air after an infected person has left the area.
Nearly 90% of unvaccinated individuals who are exposed to measles will become infected.
