The Woman I Carry Forward

In honour of International Women’s Day, I share a story about the woman who shaped my life, my grandmother, Ollie Fay Brown.

She was a woman of quiet strength. A descendant of enslaved people who lived her life as a Black woman in rural Alberta, she carried dignity, rootedness, and a powerful steadiness that shaped generations after her.

Through her life, I began to understand something profound: lineage does not just live in stories - it lives in our bodies, our choices, and the way we show up in the world.

In this talk I reflect on:
• the quiet power of grandmothers
• the strength of women who endured before us
• the choices we make today that shape future generations
• and the freedom we carry forward

This story is personal, but it is also universal. Because every one of us carries women behind us.

An 8-Part Magdalene Series

Welcome to My Temple - a sanctuary for remembering, restoring balance, and awakening the wisdom we carry in our bones.

In Episode 6 of our 8-part Magdalene series, we enter the teaching known as the Kingdom of the Flesh. This teaching is not a rejection of the body, nor a call to escape being human. Rather, it speaks to what happens when we forget how to inhabit our lives, when we live disconnected from the body, ruled by ego, productivity, judgment, or survival consciousness.

Rooted in Mary Magdalene’s wisdom, this episode explores how the Kingdom of the Flesh shows up in everyday life. Together, we reflect on how this forgetting creates suffering, not because the body is wrong, but because we’ve lost presence within it. When met with awareness and the mind of the heart, the Kingdom of the Flesh becomes a doorway rather than an obstacle, inviting us back into embodiment, compassion, and lived truth.

This episode includes reflection, teaching, and gentle inward listening, offering space to remember that the sacred is not found beyond the human experience, but within it.
