Claudette Colvin was a pioneering African American civil rights activist who, at the age of 15, refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus to a white person, nine months before Rosa Parks became famous for the same act. Colvin's bold and courageous action played a key role in the Montgomery bus boycott and the eventual desegregation of the city's public transportation system.
