  • Community Matters with Scott Cordischi featuring Governor Dan McKee (RI) 9-27-25
    Sep 27 2025
We welcome the seasonal change and fall ball with the 76th Governor of RI, Dan McKee for the latest with the state of RI. “During the McKee Administration, Rhode Island has advanced 10 places in the U.S. News and World Report Best States list” to 24th overall. Could that be due to the administration's RI 2030 plan (RI2030.ri.gov) ? RI 2030 has the objective to invest in the state and her citizens by raising economic opportunities, income and health to families and communities.”Teamwork is the key to success”. Centreville Bank Stadium and Blackstone Valley take center stage with the first American football game in the Forty-third Governor's Cup (10/3). This pits nationally ranked University of RI Rams and their in-state rival Brown University Bears to the field for a very special game while bringing this state tradition to northern RI. First Lady Susan McKee champions the effort to paint the landscape with color in partnership with state agencies DEM, DOT & DMV. These efforts have the end goal of shared pride in the state through community involvement and municipal beautification. The Washington Bridge is always on our mind. Through this “hardship and distraction” the governor is confident in the process and proud that everyone has been kept safe with no taxpayer cost.

"There's no difference between an injury to the body and an injury to the brain". That's the primary message conveyed by the Alex Archie Foundation, when speaking on student athletes and their mental health. Listen as they discuss the stigma of this mental health challenge which often comes from the "tough it out" state of mind. One way to remove the stigma, "say suicide" out loud. They bring this philosophy and action to student athletes through activities such as Mental Health Awareness Games and student wellness programs as well as working with the Active Minds organization. They join Scott in lauding Brown University for their efforts in supporting student athletes wellness with staff and organizations including Brown Cares and the Students for Samaritans, serving thirty-seven varsity teams. • Community Matters with Scott Cordischi featuring Pints for a Pint with Nicole Pineault, RI Blood Center 8-16-25.wav
    Aug 16 2025
FREE BEER! What could be better than a cold beer on a hot summer day? That's what you can get if you are 21+ and donate blood between July 28th and August 31st, for the 4th Annual "Pint for a Pint" campaign. Nicole Pineault, Executive Director - Blood Operations, Rhode Island Blood Center (ribc.org) joins us with the details. We're in a "blood emergency" when the blood supply runs low and donations are decreased. That happens particularly during the summertime when people are away or enjoying summer activities. At the same time the blood supply runs low with the need for blood arising due to activities or accidents. The hospitals still need a good supply for surgeries as well. Listen as she explains how "O Positive" is the most common blood type and that "O Negative" is the universal blood donor in trauma events. Nicole also explains how platelet donors are always needed as well, due to the short shelf life. So, go to the website (ribc.org), find a blood drive or make an appointment at one of the five RIBC locations near you by August 31st, and receive a voucher for a free pint of beer at one of the thirteen participating establishments. You can belly up to the bar for a good cause!
