Welcome to the last episode of our 3-episode ‘Access to Justice and the Rule of Law miniseries’ ⚖️ We focused on lived experiences and practical solutions speaking with experts, guardians and a former child in conflict with the law.

🎙️In this episode, Brian Bright speaks with Ruth Juliet Gachanja and Patricia Mundia. Ruth Juliet is a Child Rights Expert, Anti- Human Trafficking Specialist and Lecturer at Kabarak University. Patricia is a Child Justice Defender; Family Lawyer & Managing Partner at PWM & Co. Advocates. Bright is Communications Co-Director at Wakili.sha Initiative, Co-Host at Wakili.sha Podcast, a lawyer by training and an interculturalist in the making.

The conversation delves into the salient features of the Children’s Act 2022 and the Child Justice Strategy. We discuss what goes into policy making, the stories made so far and what remains to be done. Importantly, this episode highlights the link between access to justice and access to education. “Children only have so long to be children” and it is imperative that we protect their rights. From scholarly and practical perspectives, tune in as we discuss what we must do, to marry legislation and “vitu kwa ground”! Do share your insights as well.

In this episode, Elizabeth Njambi speaks with Jecinta Agunja and James. Jecinta is a parent and a human rights defender at the Coalition for Grassroots Human Rights Defenders Kenya (CGHRD-Ke), based in Mathare, Kenya. James is a former child in conflict with the law from Kayole, Nairobi, Kenya. Elizabeth Njambi is the Founder and CEO of Wakili.sha Initiative; as well as Wakili.sha Podcast Co-host and Lead Strategist.

James shares his experience going through the child justice system: what he went through, what he learned and what he hopes for other children in conflict with the law. Jecinta shares her experience protecting her own children and those in her community. We ask both of them what justice means to them; and what should be done to realize access to justice for all.
