In this episode of the Trip Anthropologist podcast, cultural anthropologist Monique Skidmore chats with master tour guide, Anastasia Gietanou, to reveal the secrets of the underground museum containing the royal tombs of the Macedonian Empire, including the tomb of Philip II of Macedonia.

We travel to Vergina, once the royal city of Aegina the seat of power of Macedonia. We visit the Royal Palace, recently renovated and opened after 16 years, and the underground museum and its tombs, and admire the wealth and splendor that was found when the tombs were opened.

Along the way, we learn about the gruesome end of Philip II, his great achievements and even greater vision, and how his son, Alexander the Great, began his journey to greatness following in his father’s footsteps.
