  • BONUS - The VODpod Reflects on Robert Lamacraft
    Feb 24 2025

    Bonus episode!

    Welcome to the VODPod Reflects!

The extra podcast, brought to you by the National Dignity Council.

You can find details of the campaign at:

    www.dignityincare.org.uk

    and contact the show at

    ndcvodpod@gmail.com

From time to time, we’ll publish bonus content that was either too long, too detailed, or just too late to make it into the main episode. For those of you who want to take a deeper dive into the issues discussed, and the good practice that we champion, it’s a chance to go into more detail, and take a closer look at the issues discussed. We’ll also use this space to discuss your emails, comments and stories.

In our third bonus content offerings, Jan and Alex reflect on the conversation they had with Robert Lamacraft in Season 1, Episode 3, where he discusses his role as chef, and then using food and art, on his own time, as a conduit to engage with service users, and the lesson he learnt along the way. Alex and Jan discuss this excellence in practice and its importance with regard to dignity, whilst relating it to the 10 Dignity Do’s.

Please get in touch with the show to share any experiences you have of receiving, or delivering, care with Dignity, Kindness and Respect.

If you would like a certificate to show VODPod as part of your CPD learning hours, please contact us at the show’s email address with a comment about the show and three little things which you can take forward from our discussion. And do of course become a Dignity Champion if you are not one already!

  • Food for Thought: the art of caring
    Feb 24 2025

Hello there, and welcome back to the VODPod, the Voice of Dignity Podcast from the National Dignity Council.

In this episode we are meeting Robert who has worked a huge and varied role in social care. He’s been supporting people within the fantastic organisation, St Martins housing Association, A charity based in the east of England and out of Norwich.

The charity has shown excellent example of dignity in their models of support and the ethos they embody. They work with people at high risk of homelessness for a wide variety of reasons, poor mental health, addiction and alcohol dependency, disability and breakdown.

Robert is going to relate a little of his life and his journey into his caring role, some ‘stories from the front line’ including the impact that art can make in opening up trust and communication, and the difference the feedback and wishes of the people in the service have made to not only alter the service, but also empower people to rediscover their sense of agency in their own lives.

He talks about how he views our roles in the shared experiences we have in care settings.

If you want to hear our reflection on the episode, why not follow it up with Alex and Jan's BONUS episode, VODPod Reflects, coming shortly after.

We hope you enjoy the show, and we would love to hear from you about the difference you have felt, or the difference you have made, in supporting people with dignity kindness and respect.
