Acerca de esta escucha

Welcome to "Therapy Made Me a Feminist,", a podcast rooted in evidence-based practices and my lived experiences navigating a high-demand religion—namely, the Mormon (aka LDS) church—and its impacts on mental health. Being a feminist therapist in a mixed-faith family, I’ve faced my own serious mental health challenges and intense feelings of shame due to religious and sociocultural trauma. I’m here to explore how patriarchal systems—especially in conservative cultural settings like Utah, Oklahoma, and Texas (where my family comes from)— can be, and often are, VERY harmful to the mental health of ALL individuals, regardless of their gender.

This podcast highlights the complexities of mental illness and the stigma attached to our various manifestations of neurodiversity, especially within communities influenced by fundamentally misogynistic and status-oriented religious beliefs. Grounded in therapeutic insights and my journey of healing, I’ll share what I’m learning in my daily work as I help others here in Utah navigate the same struggles.

By focusing on unshaming mental illness and deconstructing harmful narratives, I hope to offer both support and validation for those grappling with faith transitions, painful family dynamics, and the mental health struggles that often arise in male-dominated environments.

Listen in for a quirky combination of evidence-based therapeutic tools and real-world insights that will help you come to terms with your own mental health struggles, generational trauma, and healing.

And also… don’t you think it’s about time we stick it to “the man”? 💪😎🤘
