  • The Sh*t Show: navigating uncertainty with courage
    Nov 14 2025

We are in a time of great uncertainty. Multiple crises are getting our attention – from geopolitics to war to the climate emergency to mental health and more – so how do we develop the inner resilience to cope? How do we reinvent ourselves when the world around us feels so unstable? And what holds us back from speaking our truth authentically and powerfully? We are going to discuss this and a whole lot more, through the lens of a forthcoming book - The Red Silk Dress - with its central message of courage and adaptation.

Of course, the news is never boring, and we expect to spend a significant chunk of time on the BBC crisis looking at it from every angle, the latest shenanigans in the US, updates from Cop30, as well as the extreme weather events around the world this week, which include a record-breaking cold snap in the US. We’re seeing terrorism back on the streets in India and Pakistan, war and ecocide is starting to get the attention it deserves, and we’ll cover whatever else happens between now and then.

We are absolutely delighted to welcome Natalie Turner as our special guest this week. Natalie is an international keynote speaker, innovation strategist, award-winning author, and inventor of The Six ‘I’s® of Innovation - a purpose-centred framework used worldwide to help people and organisations build cultures of creativity and change. Her mission is to awaken human creativity and lead change that matters. Natalie is the author of Yes, You Can Innovate (Pearson) and the forthcoming novel The Red Silk Dress, a sensual, emotionally charged story of longing, courage, and transformation set between Cambodia, Malaysia, and Paris. Her recent TEDx Talk in Marvila, Lisbon, explores Purpose-Centred Innovation and what it means to stay human in an age of disruption and AI.

We are all looking forward to listening to Natalie, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you’re at it, this Friday 14th November 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we’d love your support.

The Sh*t Show is a Livestream happening every Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Dr. David Ko, Richard Busellato and Joe Augustin, as well as special guests, discuss the world’s most pressing issues across all angles of the polycrisis, working to make sense of the extremely challenging and complex times we are all going through, plus what we can do about it. Help us move the needle so we can change the name of the show to something more genteel when (or if) it is no longer a sh*t show.

  • What is ecotheology and why is it important?
    Nov 12 2025

There are many discussions relevant to the planetary crisis, and one very important topic is ecotheology. I decided to interview my friend, Dale Lature, who has studied this important topic for a long time; together we explored its definition, significance, his inspirations and mentors, and the challenges it faces.

It's a wide-ranging discussion, full of references for anyone wanting to research further; however, it was the challenges in the US Christian community that really stood out as a massive obstacle to overcome. The politicization of religion is something those of us not in the US have been trying to get our heads around. Dale provides some really interesting insights here.

You can follow Dale’s work here http://ecoecclesia.org/

  • The Sh*t Show: beyond the gates, community engagement in education
    Nov 7 2025

Education is a force for good that lifts societies out of poverty, yet education systems are failing around the world, especially in wealthy, democratic countries. One area showing real impact - not just on students, but on the communities schools serve - is effective community engagement programs. These programs succeed not only because of what students are doing - charity, social justice, service, or community engagement - but when they inspire students to become lifelong champions of social justice and community engagement. What does a successful model look like? How does it work in action? What difference is it making? How could our global education system benefit from this approach? You'll learn this and a whole lot more.

After that, it’s time for the news, and there’s a lot going on as usual. The US has seen a legitimate “Blue Wave” across the country which has created a media feeding frenzy, the same region in the Philippines devastated by an earthquake recently has now been flattened by Typhoon Kalmaegi, with a new Super Typhoon brewing behind it. Right now Vietnam is in the typhoon’s path after it intensified again, and Thailand is expecting torrential rainfall over the weekend from the storm too. Beyond extreme weather events, we had a walk-out from Miss Universe over disrespectful comments, the saga of the British Royals continues, and we’ll know by Friday if Elon Musk gets his $1 trillion pay package. There’s a lot more going on, but that’s a flavour from the week so far.

Our education champion is Heidi Oxley-Whitnell, who is all about enabling students - through experiential learning and community engagement - to make a difference. Heidi has been the CAS (creativity, activity, service) and Experiential Learning Coordinator at UWC Thailand for nearly 10 years and is a regular award winner for her work. Loved by students and the whole community in Phuket, Heidi is a passionate force for good in a world that needs such role models. Heidi is part of CASConnected, which aims to supports CAS coordinators globally through professional development and mentorship, helping educators design programmes that move beyond checklists to building authentic and sustainable relationships with their communities.

We are all looking forward to speaking with Heidi, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you’re at it, this Friday 7th November 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we’d love your support.

  • The Sh*t Show: the accidental humanitarian
    Oct 31 2025

How’s this? You agree with a friend to hike the trails of Northern Iraq, where the Kurdish communities live, and the next thing you know, you’re helping run refugee camps in war torn countries. How does that happen? What was the experience like? Was there hope in the camps, or despair? And today, with the world drawing back on foreign aid, what does it mean for people who continue to need this help today? These are just some of the questions we’ll cover with our very special guest.

Of course, it’s then time for the news. Hurricane Melissa has been keeping our attention since last week and meteorologists are blown away by this storm – why? We’ve had a lot of action in Asia, with Trump dancing in Malaysia to a “guided walk” in Japan, then Bill Gates said climate change isn’t so bad, Israel continues to bomb Gaza and somehow the peace deal remains in place, we have warships off Venezuela, Elon Musk’s foray into “politics” lost Tesla one million car sales so is he really worth a trillion (?), the Dutch are going to the polls, and there’s so much more. We’ll be up to date by Friday, that’s a promise.

Our accidental humanitarian and very special guest is Tom Badham-Thornhill, a humanitarian operations expert turning to energy, climate resilience, community systems and sustainable impact. He’s worked as a humanitarian leader for over a decade managing large-scale emergency operations in conflict and crisis settings, including refugee camps hosting up to 80,000 people in Iraq, Bangladesh, Yemen and Lebanon. Humanitarian work is challenging at any time, but more so today. Come and be inspired by someone who has been in the middle of this very important work, and understands what it takes to be successful, as well as why it continues to be important.

We are all looking forward to meeting Tom, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you’re at it, this Friday 31st October 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we’d love your support.

  • The Sh*t Show: sustainable tourism + community building
    Oct 24 2025

We have two guests and two topics this week, starting with sustainable tourism from a Pakistan perspective, and then we are going to dig into the importance of community building as we face the years ahead. Community is critical and it can be something you focus on in your local neighbourhood, or perhaps you prefer to be part of a global digital community? Whatever it is, it can be an anchor for the challenges we face in the years and decades ahead.

We will also be digging into the main news, discussing our take-aways from the No Kings march across the United States, how climate change is already having an impact on food availability and inflation, France’s economic woes and the possibility it’s the canary in the coalmine for Europe, where we are with world peace, maybe we’ll talk about “Prince” Andrew (maybe we won’t bother), the White House in ruins, and a whole lot more. Let’s be honest, it's Wednesday, so who knows what else will happen between now and the show this Friday?

Joe won’t be with us this week, but we have two super special guests, Sadaf Khalid, a global consultant in sustainable tourism and the CEO of Walnut Travel Tours & Consultancy. Sadaf is all about building partnerships and cooperation on the Sustainable Development Goals in Pakistan and across the world. A true champion for the environment.

Our second guest is Oliver Gill, a stonemason who spends his working hours fixing crumbling buildings in the UK – a noble trade. But he is also co-founder of The Climate Crisis Club, a global community that gathers on X every Saturday to talk all things climate and everything it entails. To be part of a group like this comes with a lot, including the emotional intensity of facing the issue of our time, as well as coordinating across such a diverse group of passionate people.

It’s going to be awesome, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you’re at it, this Friday 24th October 2025, 8am UK, 9am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 5pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we’d love your support.

  • The Sh*t Show: would you leave home for 11 years to save the planet?
    Oct 17 2025

Would you give up your work and daily connection with loved ones to raise awareness for the health of our planet? Our very special guest has done just that, living and travelling in a solar-powered bus since November 2020, embarking on an 11-year Energy Swaraj Yatra, journeying across India until 2030. He has pledged not to return home during this entire period, devoting every single day to the cause of climate correction. The Yatra is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, and it is both a living laboratory and a mass outreach platform. Now in its fifth year, he has covered 70,000 km, delivered over 1,650+ talks, and helped more than two million people become energy literate. Wow huh?

After that inspiring story of action, we’ll dig into the news. We are going to discuss the peace deal in Gaza and how we’ve all responded to it, make sense of the global economy as a lot of volatility is shaking the markets for multiple reasons, and we’re going to discuss the first official environmental tipping point – coral collapse - as well as what it means, along with the latest in AI – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Of course, between now and then, more news will break in our crazy world, and we’ll make sure it’s covered too.

We are thrilled to welcome our bus driving action hero, Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki. He is a climate action leader, innovator, and educator, who has dedicated his life to tackling the climate crisis through lifestyle change and energy independence. He recently resigned from IIT Bombay to focus 100% on tackling the climate emergency and is relentless in his drive to spark a transformation in people’s minds toward climate action and sustainability, with a commitment to helping us all embrace mindful consumption and energy independence. He’s recently launched Finite Earth Movement (FEM) with a vision to transform finite living into a global mass movement, and his goal is to mobilize one billion people worldwide for climate action by 2027. FEM is rooted in a simple truth: on a finite planet, consumption itself must be finite.

So do join us, this is definitely going to be inspiring and get caught up on the news while you’re at it, this Friday 17th October 2025, 8am UK, 9am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 5pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we’d love your support.

  • The Sh*t Show: a millennial view of the polycrisis
    Oct 3 2025

What is the polycrisis or meta crisis? It’s the simultaneous occurrence of several catastrophic events all happening at the same time, and well, you don’t have to look far to know that this is the time we are living in. The implications of the polycrisis are often overwhelming when it comes to understanding what comes next, but there’s a necessary longer-term view to consider, so it’s time to get a millennial perspective. We’ll be looking through the lens of the world this generation inherited, what they have witnessed, including institutional decay, and we’ll look ahead to the future, with the polycrisis predicted to expand and get worse. An important insight for GenX and Boomers to take on board.

Within the mix of the polycrisis, we’ll discuss whatever that was in the US with Hegseth and Trump speaking to the generals, as well as the US government shut down, the Philippines has been hit by a 6.9 earthquake in its Cebu province, more than 90 people are buried under a school collapse in Indonesia, Typhoon Bualoi has killed several and displaced thousands in Vietnam, there’s more GenZ protests this time in Morocco, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant is in a critical state, the Gaza peace proposal is now in play, there’s a new Covid variant in town, our world is hurtling towards climate disaster and our politicians are doing what (?), and of course, the most important news (being ironic here) Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated.

We are thrilled to welcome our youngest guest so far (we think), Alexander (Sasha) Thilmany. Sasha has worked at the US Department of State, initially as an intern and later as an administrative assistant. Before this, he was a program assistant at the Foreign Service Institute, and he also worked as a research associate at the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation. He is passionate about U.S. foreign policy, researching China and Asia, has worked in anti-corruption and more broadly, as a technical policy analyst. A bright man with a bright future, Sasha is now in Singapore, working out his next chapter. A view worth listening to.

So do join us, get caught up on the news, get inspired into action, this Friday 3rd October 2025, 8am UK, 9am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 5pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we’d love your support.

  • The Sh*t Show: it’s time to be voices for the children
    Sep 26 2025

Do you ever think about the inheritance we are leaving our children and grandchildren? Not monetary, but qualities like clean air, access to clean water, healthy food and a safe and nurturing environment to live in. OR are we on the path to guaranteeing them the opposite, where it will be hard to breath, too hot to go outdoors, food insecurity and famine will be rampant, water shortages a common experience, and we could go on. None of us want that, but the decisions we make today, and the actions we take right now, matter, and so we’re going to look that future in the eye and call on all adults to get involved in any way we can. Local action does result in global impact.

After that, it’s time to dig into the news, and of course, unless you live under a rock, we had Trump’s speech at the UN, Super Typhoon Ragasa hitting China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and soon Vietnam and Laos, Tylenol has been blamed for Autism, the Rapture… did it happen (?), the fact we’re getting dumber and those Meta glasses ain’t going to help, and of course, the fight for free speech continues. That’s just a start when it comes to the weeks’ news, and we never get through it all, but we give it a go.

We are absolutely delighted to welcome Joseph Masembe who hails from Uganda, and he’s the CEO and founder of Little Hands Go Green, as well as Regional Director, Climate Change Advocacy, East Africa. A passionate advocate for our children’s future, Joseph launched Little Hands Go Green in 2012, as a civil society organization, with a goal to nurture and empower children as the main drivers of environmental conservation education in their schools, homes and communities. Joseph wants to foster a deep-rooted love and passion for the environment among children through engaging and entertaining activities, and get this, they have planted 872,000 trees since they started – amazing! Joseph is a delight, and you will love listening to what he has to share.

So please, come and join us, get caught up on the news, get inspired into action, this Friday 26th September 2025, 8am UK, 9am EU, 10am Uganda, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 5pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we’d love your support.
