In the first episode of our second 10-part special season on U.S. Presidents, we take a look at James K. Polk, who was a one-term president who made that one term count. Often overlooked, he expanded the United States more than any other leader except Jefferson, adding Texas, Oregon, and California to the map. But behind that, manifest destiny was a man driven by ambition, discipline, and a desire to get things done. In this episode, we explore the presidency of America’s 11th commander-in-chief, the goals he set, the wars he waged, and why he walked away after just four years in office.
