US President Donald Trump ordered strikes Venezuela capital

On January 3, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a large-scale military operation in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Codenamed Operation Absolute Resolve, the mission began around 2:00 a.m. local time. It involved over 150 U.S. military aircraft that conducted targeted strikes on military infrastructure, air defenses, and communication antennas to facilitate the ground raid.
