For our Season 2 finale, Anthony is walking Dana through one of the most complicated and controversial figures we’ve ever covered.
Mary Mallon — better known as Typhoid Mary.
A woman linked to dozens of infections, multiple deaths, and a legacy that’s lasted more than a century. But here’s the question at the center of this episode: Was she actually a serial killer… or was she the victim of a medical system that didn’t yet understand what it was dealing with?
To help answer that, Anthony brings in our first-ever guest — Dr. Jonathan Kurtz (aka JMoney, and yes, also Anthony’s husband). With a background in infectious disease and immune response, Dr. Kurtz helps break down what typhoid really is, how asymptomatic carriers work, and why Mary became a public health villain long before the science could explain her role.
Anthony guides Dana through the history, the panic, the moral gray areas, and the uncomfortable truth that this story lives somewhere between true crime and public health — forcing us to ask whether intent matters when harm is real.
We also close out Season 2 by reflecting on the stories we’ve told, the patterns we’ve uncovered, and why Caviar & Criminals continues to live at the intersection of culture, crime, and controversy.
