  • Ep 190 - Hereditary Deep Dive into Terror & Emotional Trauma
    Apr 23 2025
In this spine-tingling deep dive, Wes and Ty crack open Hereditary (2018), Ari Aster’s chilling debut that redefined modern horror. From its gut-wrenching emotional beats to its masterful use of dread and symbolism, the guys go all in on what makes this film so damn unsettling.

Wes brings the actor’s eye to Toni Collette’s powerhouse performance, dissecting how her raw portrayal of Annie anchors the film’s emotional chaos. Meanwhile, Ty puts on his sci-fi writer hat and digs into the movie’s mythological underpinnings, exploring the occult framework behind the story and what it says about inherited pain.

They cover everything from the infamous dinner table scene, to that brutal car ride, to the slow-burn descent into madness and the dark, twisted legacy the family can’t escape. Expect plenty of big-picture analysis on grief, identity, and how horror becomes truly horrifying when it hits too close to home.

For all The Expanse fans out there, don’t miss!

As a huge fan of all things The Expanse, both the series and the books (9th and last book is FINISHED, thank you Ty & Daniel), this gem of a podcast is something I stumbled upon first on YouTube and found irresistible even at an unhurried hour+ playtime per episode.

In fact, that’s the best part about it, Ty & Wes clearly don’t give a hoot about viewership, they do this because they enjoy the banter, while discussing funny or illuminating BTS tidbits, they give us glimpses of the creative processes that go into the filmmaking and the writing. In each episode they hilariously announce their top five movies in whatever genres that come up in each episode. Wes is of course always right. (This is how I ended up watching Logan’s Run… interesting but didn’t love it, sorry)

They are self deprecating yet cocksure masters of their craft, Wes is thoughtful, articulate and NOTHING like Amos (in a good way), Ty’s love for his wife will make you cry, and the guests are amazing (Thomas Jane! Ron Perlman!). I always end up learning a ton, and always look forward to the next episode. Highly recommended.
