  • EP 104: How to Win Friends and Influence People in 2026 with Dale Carnegie’s Amy Blake
    Mar 30 2026

Many years ago (not that many, I’m still a young lad!), I took a training course that, to this day, has changed my life. I still think about it and use the tools that have shaped me as a leader: the Dale Carnegie Communication training program. “How to Win Friends and Influence People” is, of course, one of the must-read books for anyone in business. Believe it or not – I have read this book 9 times and still have no friends!

But the organization goes well beyond the books. And their training programs are still going strong today!

As technology continues to take over our lives and how we communicate with our team members, our clients and our friends and family, I thought it might be a good time to go back to the basics. We have all these great tools to connect, but how we connect with people on a human level is something we could always use a refresher on. As tech tools and AI take over the world, the ability to connect with someone one-on-one matters more than ever today.

Today’s guest is Amy Blake. Amy is the Vice President of Operations at Dale Carnegie (Ontario & Maritimes Franchise). Amy’s Dale Carnegie career spans over 28 years, helping organizations build empowering leaders. Amy designs and delivers engaging programs—both virtual and in-person—that equip leaders at all levels with the skills, insights, and confidence to succeed.

  • EP 103: Turning Your Clients into Raving Fans and Referral Machines: It’s the Little Things That Count
    Mar 16 2026

Before you recommend a service, a restaurant, a hotel, a professional to someone you know, what has to happen before you’d be willing to do that? I bet they have to leave you saying WOW! They have to do something amazing - and that amazing thing usually isn’t anything big. It’s a small gesture or moment that shows you that they’re paying attention and know you. It’s the feeling they leave you when you walk away. When a business is able to do that, you want to tell everyone all about it!

Today, I'm going to dive into the art and science of creating a great client experience that’s so good that you don't just remember them, you tell everything about them. Experiences that are so good that you go on and make sure people know that these exist.

Because actually, you would feel bad if you didn't tell people about these great experiences you had.

THAT is what really separates all the great businesses.

  • EP 102: Buying and Selling Financial Advisory Businesses with Tom de Larzac from Care Lending Group
    Mar 2 2026

For many advisors, growth is usually through one path: gathering assets one client at a time. But increasingly, the fastest—and often smartest—path to scale is through acquisition: buying retiring advisors’ practices. As many advisors across Canada are on the verge of retirement, if you’re looking to grow your business, this is a great time to take advantage of this opportunity.

Advisors weren’t trained to think like buyers. Acquisitions raise real questions—about valuation, cash flow, risk, and financing. So how do you go down this path?

My guest today, Tom de Larzac, helps advisors every day make thai happen. He’s worked across the financial industry focusing on cash-flow-based lending for specialty businesses, with deep experience in valuations, acquisitions, and growth financing. He’s worked with business owners and brands across multiple industries, helping them think strategically about capital—not just as funding, but as a tool for long-term growth.

Tom is part of Care Lending Group, a privately held Canadian financing firm that specializes in tailored lending solutions for niche industries—including wealth management. Within their advisory division, Care Lending Group works closely with independent advisors to support acquisition, succession, and enterprise-value growth strategies.

With an initial portfolio exceeding $350 million and a growing national client base, Care Lending Group is known for combining deep industry expertise with a relationship-driven approach. Unlike traditional lenders, CLG focuses on understanding each client’s unique business model and delivering customized financing solutions that align with long-term goals, not one-size-fits-all lending.

Care Lending Group has become a partner with Investment Planning Counsel to help advisors in the IPC Pinnacle program grow their business through acquisitions as advisors across Canada continue to retire.

  • EP 101: Engaging Underserved and Shifting Markets in Wealth Management with Marissa Teeter
    Feb 16 2026

There is a shift happening in wealth. Recently at one of our seminars, a speaker asked “Who do you think controls the decision making on most of the personal wealth in North America right now?” The answer: Women aged 45-55. Why? Because they make decisions for their kids and their parents as well as their own family.

Within a generation or two, we’ve seen this major shift in who makes decisions when it comes to wealth management. There are so many under-served segments of our community that are becoming major decision makers: women, younger generations and secondary decision-makers in client families.

How do you engage these growing demographics and how do you engage in this traditionally underserved and somewhat untapped market?

Marissa Teeter is a sought-after business advisor, executive coach and keynote speaker/moderator with a solid track record and impressive results as a senior wealth executive and business leader. She has both led and coached leaders who own/run multi-million and multi-billion-dollar enterprises.

Marissa is an exceptional communicator and facilitator and has over 20 years of business development, wealth management and executive leadership under her belt. She has held corporate executive roles, helped build and run a boutique wealth management firm, consulted Fortune 500 companies, and helped fuel a handful of start-up companies along the way. Marissa is also the host of her own podcast, “Teeter Talks.”

  • EP 100: The Power of Healthy Tension with Tim Arnold
    Feb 2 2026

Tension and problems are just human nature - we will come across it in our business with our clients and even with members of our team. And over the last few years, as the world has been changing, it feels these emotions and tensions are even stronger than ever before. Human nature sometimes pushes us to stray away from the tension and conflict, but today’s guest is here to tell us that we can harness it to actually be a competitive advantage! Tim Arnold spoke at a recent company retreat and his message resonated with me so much that I wanted to share this story with you.

For over two decades, Tim Arnold has empowered organizations—from Fortune 500 companies to grassroots non-profits—to navigate leadership, change, and complexity with confidence.

Tim is a leadership development expert. He has spent over two decades helping leaders navigate complexity, build effective teams, and drive results within organizations such as the United Nations, World Vision, UPS, Allstate Insurance, and Stanford Medicine. His diverse experiences, from launching, scaling, and selling a successful for-profit business to leading a homeless shelter, have provided him with invaluable insights into the challenges and triumphs of leadership.

His expertise is particularly focused on helping leaders harness the power of “AND” thinking in an Either/Or world—a concept central to his bestselling books, “Lead with AND” and “The Power of Healthy Tension.”

  • EP 99: Getting More Done Without Burning Out: The Power of Flow State with Gaby Mengstab
    Jan 19 2026

As an entrepreneur, it can feel like there’s a million things going on at one time that we must deal with. Client calls, paperwork, compliance, working with your staff, living life and being with your family! Yet so many people can really focus and execute at such a high level, accomplishing amazing things with their time. Sometimes it looks like magic!

How are they able to do that without burning out?

My guest today, Gabriella Mengstab, is a performance strategist with over 18 years of experience in financial services, including leadership roles at PIMCO, Allianz, and Perpetual. She’s worked across operations, trading, and business development. But her sweet spot lies at the intersection of sales performance and human potential.

Gabriella holds an MBA from NYU Stern and is certified through the Flow Research Collective, with extensive training in cognitive behavioral science, neuroscience, breathwork, and meditation. In 2023, a performance training she developed for financial advisors at Perpetual was named a finalist for the Barron’s & MMI Asset Management Awards, recognizing her unique ability to merge commercial acumen with cognitive mastery.

Gabriella is the founder of KinderWell, a performance consultancy helping financial professionals upgrade their internal operating system so they can lead, sell, and live at their highest level without burning out.
