Missing Paperboys /// Chapter 4 /// Milk Carton Kids

In the early eighties middle America experienced tragedies that no parent could imagine. Newspaper boys were disappearing. They would step out into the dark of the early morning hours to deliver the daily news to their neighborhoods and some of them did not return. It started in Iowa and then moved to Nebraska. Kids were plucked off the street just a few steps into their routes and some have vanished forever. In less than two years time - Johnny Gosch went missing in Iowa, Danny Joe Eberle was abducted in Nebraska, Christopher Walden was abducted in Nebraska, and then tragedy befell Iowa once again in August of 1984. 13 year old Eugene Martin disappeared during his early morning paper route. After Eugene vanished the Anderson Erickson Dairy company began printing black and white photos and bios on the sides of Milk Cartons distributed across the state of Iowa.

Kids were plucked off the street just a few steps into their routes and some have vanished forever. The first boy gone was Johnny Gosch. The second was Danny Joe Eberle. The third boy didn’t have a paper route at all. Christopher Walden was abducted near his home while walking to school, on December 2, 1983.

I have listened to dozens of true crime shows. I'd have to say this is my number one. I've listened to every single episode. There is a difference between the first year or so to the current year. They really developed quickly into a good flow. They are always respectful to victims and are funny at appropriate times. They don't go out of the way to be comedians but are funny nonetheless. It is awesome that they have had effect on helping real cases and advocate for the missing and unsolved. The music is top notch as well!

The show just gets better and better!

This one hits home because I was visiting Family in Harrison Arkansas near the end of August 2020 about 2.5 hours from Little Rock and had no idea this had happened until seeing this podcast!!
