Spoiler: it didn't work. This episode dives into the medical reality of gender transition—from how hormones actually work at the cellular level to the emotional rollercoaster of a second puberty. You'll learn what estrogen and testosterone really do to the body, what bottom growth actually means, and how modern surgery can create everything from boobs to fully functional penises with hydraulic erections. We cover the psychological shifts, the physical changes, the hilarious terminology trans people have coined, and why medical transition isn't about "fixing" anyone—it's about letting people finally be themselves.More from Michelle Forcier:Brown UniversityLinkedInMore from Riley Black:WebsiteOrder her latest book, The Last Days of the DinosaursBlueskyMore from Hibby Thach:WebsiteTwitchBlueskyMore from Charlie James:WebsiteOrder his book, I’m Just a Little Guy: How to Escape the Horrors and Get Back to DillydallyingTikTokCitations and transcript: https://www.tabooscience.show/trans-101-how-transgender-hormone-therapy-changes-body-and-brain/Need music for a project? I am tired of listening to Ashley constantly say, "Sex 'assigned' at birth". Humans are, very strictly, scientifically speaking, a dimorphic species with strictly distinct male and female sexes. There are no middle, or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc., number of biological sexes to the human species, there are only two biological sexes, full stop. Biological sex is NOT on a "spectrum".

Additionally, for some convenient reason, they keep skipping over the fact that biological sex is ultimately and completely determined by these things called gametes. Gametes are the ultimate determiner of what your biological sex is, and it applies to the entire animal kingdom. There are no middle or intermediary gametes, ever, they are either small or large.

I also greatly dislike her description of transitioning, referring to males or females as, "starting off with the physical characteristics of a male/female...". No Ashley, no. We are not sexless, featureless mannequins who are assigned boy or girl parts upon birth. Seating arrangements at school can be assigned, jobs or projects are assigned, biological sex is not assigned, it is a fact of nature that is DECLARED at birth, not assigned. We are not featureless humanoid wax figures living in a wax museum that can be shaped into whatever we want and therefore become the thing that we wish we were, if that were the case then I also suffer from body dysphoria because I imagine myself as Superman. Can you help me transition to Superman? No?

Socially speaking, what about another race? Can we transition to another race? What if a white man decides to identify as a black woman, would that be okay, or just the woman part?

The so-called logic fails completely here.

I guess I shouldn't really be surprised considering Ashley used to be a science reporter for the Sci-Show, which seems to sometimes be more Sci- for Show than actual Science.

Lots of pseudo science and spin
