Tour de Mátra UCI Gran Fondo World Series in Hungary from 29 to 31 May 2026. Tour de Mátra Gran Fondo is one of Europe’s toughest and Hungary’s very first UCI Gran Fondo World Series qualifiers. The event welcomes cyclists from more than 15 countries, with 4 distances available: 16 km mini fondo, 94 km medio fondo, 161 km gran fondo challenge, and an individual time trial. The time trial takes place on Friday, followed by a rest day for qualifying riders. The mini fondo is on Saturday, the medio and gran fondo are on Sunday. Registration is open for all participants with or without a UCI license. Regarding the Hungarian Cycling Federation’s categories - outside the UCI categories - the first 3 youth categories can enter free of charge, supporting the development of the young generation. The fondo courses end with a traditionally prestigious mountain-top finish at Hungary’s highest point.

The Tour de Mátra is more than a two-day cycling race. It’s a festival that celebrates the spirit of cycling. For Hungarian amateur riders, one key decision is how to ride not only fast, but also safe. Buying one-off insurance for each race is possible, but the smarter choice is the UCI License. Recognised worldwide, it acts as a passport to competitive cycling. In Hungary, it includes 24/7 accident insurance anywhere in the world plus liability cover across Europe.

Obtaining the license is simple with the Mátra Biker Sport Club: join online, get a sports medical certificate, send it in, and within about 10 business days your digital license is ready. Beyond safety, the license opens the door to international opportunities. The Tour de Mátra aims to join the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, where finishing in the top 25% of your age group qualifies you for the World Championships.
