Welcome back to the weather segment! Let me tell you, Chicago, we've got quite the winter storyline brewing out there right now, and I am absolutely pumped to break it down for you.
So here's what's happening overnight into tomorrow morning. We're looking at snow showers moving through the Windy City, and I'm not trying to be a flake about it, but this system is going to bring us some accumulation. We're talking less than an inch overnight with lows dipping down to around twenty-two Fahrenheit. Winds are going to be gusting up to twenty miles per hour from the south, so it's going to feel pretty raw out there. The chance of precipitation is one hundred percent, so definitely don't leave home without checking conditions.
Wednesday morning, the snow showers continue mainly before seven in the morning. We'll see highs climbing to around forty-three Fahrenheit with winds gusting up to twenty-five miles per hour. New accumulation should stay under half an inch, but again, eighty percent chance of precipitation means you'll want to bundle up.
After that system moves through, we transition to scattered showers Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon though, we're looking at some sunshine breaking through with highs near forty-four Fahrenheit. From there, things really start to improve. Friday looks mostly cloudy but pleasant with highs near sixty-one Fahrenheit. Saturday gets even better with mostly sunny skies and highs around sixty-two Fahrenheit.
Now let's shift gears to the Weather Playbook segment. Today I want to talk about something called wind shear, and it's absolutely fascinating. Wind shear happens when wind speed or direction changes dramatically at different altitudes in the atmosphere. Think of it like this, if you're driving on Lake Shore Drive and suddenly the wind direction changes by ninety degrees at different elevations, that creates wind shear. This phenomenon can either tear storms apart or actually organize them into more powerful systems. It's one of the reasons meteorologists obsess over upper-level winds when we're tracking severe weather. Pretty incredible how nature balances itself out, right?
Your three-day quick forecast looks like this. Tomorrow, snow showers early with a high of forty-three Fahrenheit. Thursday, scattered showers clearing to partly sunny skies with a high near forty-four Fahrenheit. Friday, mostly cloudy with warming temperatures climbing to sixty-one Fahrenheit.
Folks, that's your Chicago forecast from yours truly. Make sure you subscribe to the podcast so you never miss an update. Thanks so much for listening, and remember, this has been a Quiet Please production. You can learn more at quietplease dot ai.
