Principal harpist of the PSO Gretchen Van Hoesen will play French music for harp and strings in the Allegheny Historical Preservation Society’s Tiffany Concert Series. Gretchen joined Jim Cunningham live on the QED Morning Show to talk about the concert.
The program features music by Gretchen’s former teacher, Marcel Grandjany, Lili Boulanger’s Nocturne, Bernard Andrès’ Zerbina, Ravel’s String Quartet, and concludes with Gabriel Pierné’s Concertstück for Harp and Strings. Gretchen also talks about the PSO’s upcoming performance of Mahler’s Resurrection this weekend, her musical lineage, and the connection Gretchen and her husband, retired co-principal oboist of the PSO, have to WQED.
Jim and Gretchen also listen to Gretchen’s recordings of the Minuet by Maurice Ravel and Reinhold Glière's Concerto for Harp and Orchestra in E-flat major, Op. 74.
Don’t miss Gretchen playing French music for harp and strings on Sunday, March 22nd at 4:00pm at Calvary United Methodist Church on the Northside. More information can be found on Calvary’s website. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
