I’m Dr. Angela Mazza, D.O., a thyroid, endocrine, and metabolism specialist with a private practice in Central Florida. My goal for this podcast is to define and demystify the thyroid gland, and thyroid-related medical conditions. By providing information in an easy-to-understand format, we hope to help patients better understand the ways in which their bodies work, and to help them thrive. Here’s some of what we covered today, not necessarily in this order:

    · Low Density Lipoprotein and High Density Lipoprotein--crucial roles of LDL and HDL.

    · Cholesterol is not an enemy--unless our levels are out of range. Then we may experience problems.

    · About 80% of our cholesterol is made in the liver--and the levels are pre-determined by genetics;

    · Two types of testing to consider: Basic and Advanced Lipid Testing.

    · We must always interpret lipid levels in light of thyroid status, insulin resistance, inflammation, and a person’s genetics. They all go hand in hand.

    · The two types of treatment that are available: functional (aka integrative) and traditional.

    · Supplements, medications, and lifestyle changes used in treatment programs.

    · Optimizing thyroid function can help to normalize lipid levels.

    · Integrative endocrinologists tend to see knowledge as a continuum. It grows as we learn how lifestyle, environment, and hormones all dance together. Each new discovery helps us better personalize care for patients.

    · And we learned that we CAN impact our thyroid health!

    Estrogen Suppression for Certain Cancers

    Host: Dr. Angela Mazza, DO

    Co-host: Dawn Sheffield

My goal is to help us live more fulfilling lives by taking control of our health, to feel our best. I do this podcast to provide life-saving education and encourage patients to see a doctor in time to prevent or minimize damage. That’s deeply fulfilling. I enjoy helping folks understand how all aspects of their lives are tied to both thyroid and overall health. That’s why I went into endocrinology. It’s a medical art that combines science with the study of our lives—and all that they encompass. Here’s some of what we covered today, not necessarily in this order:

    · Estrogen’s role in our lives, and in menopause.

    · Tools to support feeling better if estrogen-depleted.

    · Menopause can be a natural process or induced; symptoms.

    · Focus on helping our bodies adapt and thrive--mind, body, and spirit.

    · What is cancer & why are some (not all) considered to be “estrogen-driven.”

    · Why doctors might suppress or halt estrogen production in certain cancer patients.

    · How both estrogen suppression, and natural menopause, affect thyroid function.

    · And best of all we learned that we CAN impact our thyroid health!

Dont give up listening d/ t awkward presentation during the initial episodes. This podcast is Slow to start, but after the first episodes, the presenters become more comfortable and more enjoyable to listen to. Also, The info presented is well organized - distilling complex biological dynamics as pleasantly as possible for anyone dealing with thyroid disorders.
