  • The Happening (2008)
    Mar 31 2025

We conclude our "In The March of Madness" month with a look at the 2008 M Night Shayamalan film The Happening.

In this film a science teacher (Mark Wahlberg), his wife (Zoey Deschanel), and a young girl struggle to survive a sudden plague that causes those infected to commit suicide.

This one was a tough one because, while the movie does not necessarily deal with anyone going insane, the movie will certainly drive you nuts trying to make sense of it all which means, it's a perfect candidate for one of our "Drink 'til it's good" episodes as well. This time, we will not just break down the film for you...we're gonna act it out...the 3GD way!

  • The Fisher King (1991)
    Mar 10 2025
Our "In The March Of Madness" month continues as, this week, we're going to be talking about Terry Gilliam's 1991 film, The Fisher King. Jeff Bridges plays Jack Lucas who was once a rich, famous and egotistical New York City shock jock. Jack goes on a downward spiral, both personally and professionally, after a glib comment he makes to one of his regular callers results in that caller going on a murder spree at a trendy downtown bar. Three years later, when Jack hits rock bottom and is close to suicide, he is saved by a seemingly crazy and homeless man named Parry (Robin WIlliams). Parry does have mental health issues, namely hallucinations centered around the story of the Fisher King, and an obsession with obtaining the Holy Grail. After Jack learns of Parry's own background and the reason he got to where he is, Jack feels the need to be part of Parry's salvation. Listen in and hear what we thought of it.

  • Romancing The Stone (1984)
    Mar 3 2025
This week we wrap up Fantasy February and our look at pulp heroes with a look at a film that has it's roots in (and centers around) pulpy romance fiction novels. From 1984, Romancing The Stone. Kathleen Turner plays Joan Wilder, a meek and mousy romance novelist, who receives a treasure map in the mail from her recently murdered brother-in-law. At the same time, her sister Elaine is kidnapped in Colombia and the two criminals responsible, demand that she travel to Colombia to exchange the map for her sister. Joan does, but she quickly becomes lost in the jungle after being waylaid by Zolo, a corrupt Colombian cop who will stop at nothing to obtain the map for himself. While there, she meets, and is helped by, an irreverent, laid-back adventurer of sorts, named Jack Colton (Michael Douglas) who agrees (for a price) to bring her back to civilization. Together, they embark upon an adventure that could be straight out of one of Joan's pulpy romance novels!
