There’s a version of Christianity that feels safe—polished, agreeable, and careful not to ruffle feathers. And then there’s the version we see in Scripture… the kind that gets people thrown in prison.

Today, we’re talking about the difference.

John the Baptist didn’t hedge his words. He didn’t soften truth to protect his reputation. He called things what they were—boldly, publicly, and without apology. And it cost him everything. So the question we’re asking is one most people don’t want to touch: what happened to that kind of conviction?

Have we traded courage for comfort? Truth for approval? And if we haven’t…why are so many of us afraid to say what we actually believe?

We’re going to get into all of it—why Christians are often seen as hypocrites, how far is too far when calling out darkness, and what it really means to take every thought captive in a culture that’s constantly trying to reshape what you think.

And before we’re done, we’re going to wrestle with one uncomfortable idea:
If John the Baptist showed up today… would we even be on his side?

    Let’s get into it.

Good morning and welcome to Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D!

What happens when an Easter message doesn’t stay “safe”…and instead turns into a full-on deep dive into snakes on fire, the terrifying side of Jesus, and the real weight of what happened on the cross?

In this episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, Joe and Pastor-D unpack a sermon that refuses to stay surface-level. From the mystery of when our sins were actually paid for, to what Jesus was doing in those three days before the resurrection, to the tension between God’s love and His wrath—nothing is off the table.

They also tackle some tough, honest questions:
Has our culture lost its fear of God? Why do we treat sin like it’s no big deal? And is it possible to sit in church, hear the truth, and still walk away unchanged?

If you’ve ever wrestled with what Easter really means—or wondered if there’s more to the story than what you’ve always heard—this conversation will challenge you, stretch you, and maybe even shake you a little.

So whether you’re all-in on faith, unsure about any of it, or just here for a good story—you’re invited into this conversation. This might be the one that changes everything.

    Apr 1 2026

In this episode of Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D, we kick things off with a couple of things in the news recently and a follow-up conversation involving Donald Trump and Franklin Graham. From there, we transition into a powerful discussion centered around this week’s sermon.

Pastor D walks us through Daniel 7:9–10 and the vivid picture of God’s throne—highlighting the overwhelming sense of awe, holiness, and reverence that comes with truly seeing God for who He is. We talk about whether we’ve become too casual with the word “holy,” and what it really means when Scripture describes God in such powerful, fear-invoking ways.

Moving into Revelation, we explore John’s reaction to encountering Jesus—falling down as if dead—and compare that to real-life moments of experiencing God’s presence. This leads into a deeper conversation about reverence in prayer, physical posture, and why many believers today approach God so casually despite having full access to Him.

We also wrestle with the balance between intimacy and reverence in our relationship with God, and how Scripture presents Jesus not only as Savior and friend, but also as King, judge, and conqueror. Finally, we discuss what it actually looks like to “be holy” in everyday life and whether this sermon series is meant to challenge and reshape our perception of Jesus into something far more powerful and awe-inspiring.

Good morning and welcome to Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D!

In this episode, we'll take a quick look at current events and ask a tough question about conflict and leadership before diving into a powerful conversation about the cross. We explore how Jesus could say, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do,” in the middle of extreme suffering—and how we might respond in that same situation. We talk about the thief on the cross and the risk of waiting too long to turn to God, why Jesus made sure His mother was cared for even while dying, and what He meant when He cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

We also unpack the humanity of Jesus in “I thirst,” what was truly finished when He said, “It is finished,” and how “into your hands I commit my spirit” models complete trust in God. We address the common question of why Jesus didn’t save Himself—and how the cross wasn’t a loss, but a victory.

Finally, we wrestle with the tension of the cross itself: an image of brutal suffering and disturbing violence, yet also one of forgiveness, grace, hope, and incredible power—and why God would choose such a moment to demonstrate His love for us.

Good morning and welcome back to Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D!

This week we’re unpacking Sunday’s message from Coast Life Church, titled “Terrifyingly Wonderful.”

In this episode, Pastor D tells us about what it really means to be terrified of how much God hates sin. We'll explore some of the terrifying things he has done here on Earth and how we should approach our Christianity with that in mind. He'll also discuss what it means to believe—not just believing in the unknown, but trusting God Himself. We dig into what faith looks like in everyday life and why belief isn’t meant to stay stuck in our heads.

Then we jump into the idea of living a reproducible life—a life that actually shows others what following Jesus looks like. Because faith that stays private rarely multiplies.

Finally, we tackle the mission Jesus gave us: make disciples. Not just attend church, not just listen to sermons, but step into the calling to influence others for Christ.

So grab your coffee, take a deep breath, and join us as we think out loud about a faith that’s bold, reproducible, and maybe just a little terrifying.

Good morning and welcome back to Thinking Out Loud with Pastor D! Grab your coffee and join us as we unpack this week’s message from Coast Life Church titled “Build Your Life: Prove It.”

In this episode, Pastor D challenges us to take a closer look at how we’re building our lives—and why we should never underestimate what God can do when we actually let Him get to work. We’ll talk about personal growth, faith, and what it really means to finish well when God gives us something to do.

Along the way, Pastor D gets real about leadership—why being “in charge” isn’t always as glamorous as it sounds, and why staying humble while leading others can be harder than it looks. He’ll share a few stories from his own colorful past, including some moments where the lessons came the hard way.

We’ll also dive into the topic of wisdom—how to recognize good advice, avoid the bad stuff, and why sometimes the loudest voices aren’t always the wisest ones. Pastor D even shares a story about a time he followed some truly questionable advice… and let’s just say the results were memorable.

Finally, we’ll talk about why following God’s path sometimes means ignoring the crowd. Because when you’re walking in faith, not everyone is going to understand what you’re doing—and that’s okay.

So pull up a chair, settle in, and join the conversation as we think out loud together. You might laugh a little, learn a little, and maybe even walk away with a fresh perspective on how you’re building your life.

Good morning, friends, and welcome back to Thinking Out Loud with Dr. Anderson!

This week, we’re diving into Sunday’s message: “Generosity That Looks Like Jesus.” And trust us—you’re going to want to hear this one.

Dr. Anderson is filling in for Pastor-D at Coast Life Church this week, and he’s bringing more than just a sermon—he’s got jokes too!

We’ll kick things off with a behind-the-scenes look at his early days as a medical intern, how he unexpectedly found himself at Coast Life Church, and how he used charm and good looks to woo his wife into paying his rent while he was doing his medical residency.

Along the way, Dr. Anderson shares how he reconnected with Jesus in a fresh way—and how tithing became a meaningful and transformational part of his faith journey.

Then we’ll jump into the heart of the sermon. What exactly is tithing? What’s it for? How do we do it faithfully? And how is it different from simply giving generously? We’ll unpack the differences between tithing and generosity—and why both matter deeply in the life of a believer.

We’ll also explore what it really means to be a steward of God’s blessings and how giving with joy shifts our perspective from temporary returns to an “eternal return on investment” that truly lasts.

Whether you’re curious about generosity, wrestling with questions about giving, or just love a good story about faith and growth, this episode promises insight, encouragement, and a few smiles along the way.

Pull up a chair and join the conversation—we’re thinking out loud together.

Good morning, and welcome to Thinking Out Loud with Pastor-D ! Pull up a chair, grab your coffee and join us as we unpack the highlights and heart lessons from Sunday’s message at Coast Life Church.

This week, we kick things off with an update on GrandPastor-D, checking in on his recovery and celebrating the progress of healing — proof that prayer, patience, and probably a little stubbornness still work. Pastor-D will also touch briefly on the unfolding Epstein story, offering a little perspective before we turn our focus to more uplifting territory.

From there, we dive into the sermon, exploring the idea of our relationship grid — who belongs in our lives and why it matters as Christians. Pastor-D will help us spot the “right Paul” in our world as we consider the people who shape our walk.

Next, we’ll talk about cultivating friendships that do more than pat us on the back — the kind that cheer us on and lovingly call us out when needed. Pastor-D will share a few stories from his own journey in pastoral leadership, along with the lessons he’s learned along the way.

We’ll wrap up by exploring what it really means to mentor someone else, and how to know whether you’re ready to step into that role — because shaping the next generation of believers is a calling, a responsibility, and occasionally a test of your faith.
