Tonight’s story is The Shell of Sense by Olivia Howard Dunbar, first published in Harper’s Magazine in 1908. It has appeared in a number of collections and anthologies, most notably as the title story of Dunbar's own short story collection. This story is rather dark and unsettling, but not because it is a ghost story.
